I just had an idea, how about giving engineers the ability to build some sort of steps, or ladders, allowing a squad to access previously unavailable areas?
We could take that a step further and allow dedicated engineering squads to build bridges that could allow tanks and vehicles to cross water.
in general a good idea but you forgot 1 important thing: the AI
AI is still stupid as hell. You can see that on pacific map where the cap is on the big ship. instead of taking the ladder outside to climb up, they run around or from the lowest level of the ship up to the highest level, meeting many, many enemies and dying there.
same would be with your “steps / ladders”. First DF / Gaijin need to fix the stupid AI.
this is part of the problem, the second problem is engie players like I we where asking for MORE structures years ago, and you know, they dont do, its shameful see how a dude with the models of game can make do in a custom mode than the snail
Good point. But I built sandbags (as makeshift ladders) just to get up to a higher point and I don’t send my AI up there. I just have them wait in a nearby point.
So the ladders don’t need to be climbable by AI (although it would be sweet) since there will still be a few people who will find them useful
Ideas like this have been suggested before, but there’s nothing wrong with mentioning them again.
I think its an excellent idea.
Ladders, steps, Bailey bridges.
Especially Pacific maps bridges would be really helpful. Id also suggest that generated bridges can be blown up so engineers are encouraged to build alternate routes and repair bridges like real life.
There could be an infantry bridge and vehicle bridge, the latter taking more resources. Its super annoying in Pacific and Tunisia having to wade across rivers all the time.
