Easy solution for bugged bipods

its obvious df isnt capable of solving that issue, i guess too many details within the code.
try the following:
remove all conditions for bipods to work, instead just give the player all bipod advangates after he clicks to activate the bipod without checking for windows/ground conditions etc.

forget about making the graphics for bipods work, this would just take 2 more years, instead add an icon to the HUD that tells the player he now has additional bipod accuracy and add a delay between clicking on bipods to activate and the player getting them, to balance the mechanic.

having the mechanic working even without graphics is better than not having a standard mechanic of all fps games not at all, especially before the big release.

This would be extremely silly. Even worse than the crap we have right now.

So basically a “remove my recoil pls” button where bipod applies magically no matter whether there even is any surface to bipod on? :joy:

I would approach it from different perspective: have the bipod work while on prone in a reasonable way.

At least it’s easy and possible to check this condition consistently.

if it was, we would have it already working in the game, which is not the case.
my post obv. implied that soldiers have to be prone too for the bipod button to work. also the 1 second delay balances it out nicely, since during fights losing one second while getting shot at means its not simply spammable.

That depends on how the check is done. If it is, “soldier prone” vs. “distance of gun to object ground”.

I can agree to a delay when prone, cannot agree to delay when standing / crouching. This will be extremely cheesy for very questionable benefit.

I would rather do:

You can have bipod open all the time or apply it with 1s cost. Having bipod open creates +25-50% aim time the first time you aim between awsd-moving, aiming multiple times without moving happens without malus. Bipod open applies recoil benefit when prone, and you can fully move and turn in prone with bipod on at -50% speed.

makes sense. important is, they implement it as fast as possible. weapons like MGs are not playable at all as they were in real life due to bipods not working

I first understood your message as @_fi_nal did.

I find no problem to mount if I’m prone. Nothing magical would change things with your suggestion unless you mean something else.

Ofc, if you lying in rubble or on stairs it will not work properly, but that’s how it should be imo.

its bugged because very often it doesnt activate the bipod when prone because the game checks for things and fails, leading to unrealistic and annoying results. removing these checks will make the mechanic much smoother and the game better. i see posts about bipods not working multiple times every week since months.

Or have it like insurgency sandstorm, where deploying bipod causes it to auto-mount to the nearest available surface.
