Ok, three years of playing Enlisted, second day of custom matches just got me booted from shooting my own team. Ok, so it wasn’t on purpose. The first dude, yes, because I am not used to playing with Soviets and having Allies on my team, so at first I shot the first guy who had a different faction uniform. Then, got the warning, so I realized, ok, I can’t shoot through my dudes here. Fine, however, throughout the game, I would be shooting at enemy and have a dude run in front of me, thus getting another warning. Anyway, at the final cap point in Tunisia, I opened a door to the cap point which was FULL of enemy people, and sporting a level 5 Soviet MG I cut loose. I guess, apparently their must have been friendlies somewhere behind the enemy as I mowed down everyone in sight, only to get booted from the game. I guess I learned in custom mode, you have to be a little more careful then you do in the normal game. Noted, and sorry to my fellow soldiers I mowed down in the line of duty, your sacrifice was not in vein as I learned from your deaths.
In all seriousness, It is an adjustment for someone who’s played over 5,000 regular games and not had to worry about friendly fire, but I’m learning. NOTE, only one dude was shot on purpose, the first guy till I figured out he was on my side.
I don’t even consider that to be shot on purpose. You thought he was an enemy, so you shot him. It wasn’t like spawning with the rest of your team and mowing them down from behind.
Also, on a side note, I wish they implemented a revenge kill system where you get points for killing the team killer. And then maybe a vote kick system if it’s constant. It would be way funner, and most people know the difference between accidental and intentional.
In actuality, there were two guys that I shot at as they were both side by side. I did not see the little team mate triangle overhead, I just saw a different uniform and cut loose. I am not sure how many times you get warned, but all the others other then the mowing the lawn at the end were guys who just happened to get in the line of fire. But I was drooling when I opened the door and saw which looked to be about a dozen enemies and I have a machine gun with lots of bullets. I still can’t believe I had team mates in that room as I did not see any triangles over anyones heads, but maybe I only had to hit one more. Not sure, however I did get my experience and silver, so it was not a complete loss.
Not sure I like custom match as I have only played about four of five, but most of them I got in on the fifth cap point when the game was all but lost or all but won. It kind of sucks to get into a game, play about a minute in a loss and get credit for that loss. But the worst was lone fighter, I bailed after a few minutes because there was one spawn point, and the enemy was seriously spawn camping that point. I couldn’t hardly spawn in time to just lay down, as soon as you spawned they were cutting loose through the door, so I said F**k it and bailed. I had killed three people and lost five squads. So, I got a credit for a loss joining at the very end of a game, and I got my 20% desertion penalty for bailing from a spawn camp match. Good times learning Custom matches.
I tell ya, it doesn’t inspire me to join more custom matches.
I think the biggest problem is mixed uniforms and hardcore. The friendly markers dissapear in range so if you are sniping you have 0 way to tell who is friendly. Also the friendly marker is way too light blue and blends with the sky which has caused me lots of friendly fire incidents. Worst of all my chat doesnt work at all so i cant apologize and i cant even see others apologies if i get friendly killed
I don’t have chat at all. Also, there were not control points marked above as usual, just red smoke marking the cap point. I didn’t understand where the cap points were at first until I put the red smoke and cap point together, then it was not an issue, but till then I just followed the crowd.
I could swear I saw the 20% penalty, but who knows, I was irritated by the blatant spawn camping so maybe I wasn’t fully paying attention. However, in the future if I join a game and four of the five cap point are gone, I am just going to automatically bail, not worth the two minutes of time at that point. I did play about 3 other custom games later last night, all squad with my level three Allies. Good thing I had decent team mates as everyone else seemed to be using level five weapons. I had four BAR A2 squads and I can hold my own in level five with BAR A2’s, so I did fairly well, and we won the three I played in. I figured that if you win, and the lobby stays essentially the same, why leave, just stay and play again. So I played three, won three and called it a night. This mode you could not kill your own team mates, so, I am assuming that you can change that since the other squad game I had earlier played you could. It takes some getting used to as I am not used to using my US squads and having Soviets as team mates, my first instinct when I see the other uniform is to shoot, and since I play a lot of Germans, I am used to seeing Soviets as enemy.
