It looks like that to me too but then when I start adding members it caps at 3 total for squad.

As Soul T say’s it caps it.
You take one of the slots shown to become a squad of 3
and romper stomp the other team. 
I’m sorely mistaken then, sorry OP and thanks Ricky for clearing this up.

Hmmm, so how do you get 4?
There is no button to add once I have 2 members in my team.
Pretty unfair that 40% of the team are actual dedicated human players vs solo players, casuals and bots. It’s annoying but not a huge problem thanks to desert button.

the option should still appear but it icons don’t after you get 3

Think about how unfair and unbalanced this game is. And if you want to stand any chance you need to be in a big squad and stomp on solo players and casual.
Just MINDBOGGLING how developers thought it was OK to match premade team against solo players. Almost half of the team are dedicated players. This might be fine in battlefield with 128 players but not 10 vs 10.
BUMP. Please fix this before next battlepass. No more 4 vs 1.
