The only reason I don’t run the Fg42 in auto is limited ammo. 2x20rnd mags without pouches goes really quick.
Yeah I’ve maxed mine out, I use it with my radio squad in Tunisia when The daily challenge sends me to the allies, I find it pretty easy to hit with and it seems to have a fairly low recoil, but you might have to hit them a couple of times even at medium ranges. I think it’s easier to use than the G 41 which I don’t really care for because of its sight picture.
So my general impression is that it seems to be much more usable than I would’ve thought it ought to be, the M1 grand should be a much better weapon much harder hitting much larger effective range,
IRL, The M1 Carbine was really just intended for support troops, they were issued to replace the 45 pistol and supposedly possess the hitting power of that at close range.
The 30 carbine cartridge is often compared to the 357 magnum in terms of power. They both reach about 900-1000ft lbs of energy with 12" barrels. The damage is reasonable in game compared to full power rifle cartridges like the .303, 7.62x54r, 7.92mm (8mm mauser), and 30-06 ranging from 2500-2900ft lbs of energy.
That is compared to the 45 acp pistols like the 1911 which only have 350ft lbs of energy. 9mm running about 300-320ft lbs.
I am of course talking about the ammo of the time, not modern ammo.
I also really hate the G41 sights, you can’t see shit. I wish it was just like the K98
The Lee Enfield is my absolute favorite for sights. It’s a fantastic gun in it’s own right as well.
I’ve been using the M2 carbine and M1 carbine a lot recently, and they’re better than normal bolt actions in a lot of cases. Recently with the M2 I’ve, on several occasion, taken out whole squads equipped with only bolt actions at close and medium range. Longer ranges you’re going to miss 8/10 shots, but semi auto at close/medium range beats most early Normandy submachine guns. The main downside is it’s awful to use in full auto, as the sites are a mess, but otherwise if you’re crouched or prone you will excel.
I never use M1 carbine…only M1 garand.
More powerful, more deadly.
I love it. It’s good at hip fire as well.
In the past, I used the M1 as my primary weapon for all classes that could use it. It has good performance and is cheap. until they rebalanced the semi guns. ato therefore had to use the M2 instead.
