It would be historically accurate though; the maxim has a lower non-adjustable profile, the shield doesn’t protect against high calibers, and the recoil on the specific version tchof suggested would be worse because it’s mounted on wheels.
The mg42 wouldn’t have protection, but the laffete mount is adjustable and offers great recoil stability.
Germany typically went with “a great offence is the best defense” strategy, and this, as tchof mentioned in his previous posts, would give the game asymmetrical balance and make it more interesting,
For the record, I main germany and only germany, so, of course I wouldn’t go with an idea that would put me at a high disatvantage, and yet I approve of this idea

Shield only protects from pistol caliber bullets and rifle bullets at long range
The only advantage Maxim has is less chance to overheat and extra protection
Laffete on the other hand has more firepower, flexibility and is overall easier to build inside houses
