If there could ever be a command that every soldier in the squad equipped with a shovel would dig straight down where they stand until hitting the limit, then they would stop. Now they will be standing still on that spot, as an automatic unique soldier placement order was placed exactly on their location when the order was issued. So they remain at their station until new orders are issued.
Would be cool for the defending side. It would be quick, and easy, to use for the player, and technically it would, to great effect, use a bunch of elements already existing in the game that are at present grossly underutilized.

sO YOU HAVE A TINE RANDOMLY SHAPED SERIES OF SMALL HOLES, BECAUSE THEY WILL NOT BE LINED UP FORMING A TRENCH OR BUNCHED UP FORMING A SINGLE SQUAR
Just like at Bastogne and other places where soldiers have to dig their individual trench, in that case the holes were tiny because the ground was frozen. Anyway, that depends on how much time they have to dig. A tiny hole is a lot better than nothing at all. Soldiers do that all the time when staying at one location, expecting contact, they start digging.
That guy seems to have quite the complicated thing going on there, but nonetheless it’s interesting what he’s saying.
Could work same way you build fortifications u build layout by stretching trenches around on ground…then telling your Squad members to build it by pointing at it and pressing a button.
