Different Dauntlesses

So there are now 2 Dauntlesses you can use at once -

1/ SBD-3 Dauntless ex-Tunisia campaign; and
2/ SBD-3 Dauntless B23 ex-Pacific campaign

On the surface they are the same a/c - the “b23” for hte Pacific one seems to be a meaningless DF addition as far as I can see. Same load, same armament, etc.

But I’ve noticed that the ex=Tunisia one performs WAAAAAY better - eg it gets to about 170kph taking off from the carrier, teh ex pacific one only gets to 142 or so - which is what I recall from the campaign pre-merge.

Odd…

Haven’t had time to check other duplicated a/c or equipment - esp tanks… I’m sure there are a few

Oh, I thought that they were the exact same planes.

I never played any of them, (I don’t really like slow bombers) so I never noticed.

Yeah, you’d think so, and that’s my point - it’s note like there were any different marks of SBD-4 - later improved planes were the SBD-4 and SBD-5

Not really, I tested in custom, both take off at about the same speed, after starting at the same place on the same carrier, both full throttle, no flaps.

Maybe you’ve upgraded one and not the other? Alternatively the B23 says it had armor plates added in the description, so maybe thats the difference? (Although we all know how scuffed the descriptions can be)
Plane stats in the game are kind of meaningless too, it would be nice to have something like power/weight stats, cruising speed, the speed at which you get max climb, etc
Although i guess extra armor mass should show up in existing climb stat?

Uh, is your game set to miles?

BTW, last time I’ve took off an unupgraded Dauntless (post merge), I’m pretty sure i was above 200kph at the end of the carrier.
You wanna throttle up to max immediately (the engine starts and seems to reach max power way faster that way vs starting and only then throttling up) and use the artificial horizon to keep the plane level to minimise drag and avoid bouncing off the deck and wrecking your radiators/outright exploding

Both are fully upgraded.

No, is that even possible?
I have metric system, dont see an option to select metric/imperial.
It’s an USA plane, USA has imperial system, the weight of the bombs is in LB, not KG.
Perhaps the speed is automatically in mph and not kmph…?

Anyways, the speed is the same and also the specs.

EDIT: according to the specs, max speed of SBD-3 is 398.88 kmph (249.3 mph).
In game I reach 300+ so that must surely be in kmph, not miles, cant be miles because that would be much faster that the max speed in specs.

@Euthymia07 can confirm, both plane are mostly the same

They’re the exact same, textures are the only difference.

so i guess cooler skin=better plane.

How tf are you even in air at 112 kph?
I only took off a few times since I didn’t want to just chain plow planes into the ground on attack map, but:
the B23 version seemed to take off at 160
the other one usually hit like 145, but i only did that one once or twice and kinda messed it up too
(I dont actually know which one is which, got so much garbage in my inventory post merge lmao)
Could have sworn i reached ~200 some other day?
Now I’m actually wondering if the weather matters for air simulation, this time I had super foggy/damp weather, it would probably screw with engine power and increase drag?

I’m not - I’m in hte air at 142 kph.

That’s a measure used by the rest of the world that isn’t related to 1000 double paces of a Roman Legionary…

Doh - yep - 2 star vs 5!!
