1 . Thats the point of a second weapon on assaulters, to have more assaulting capability or be not useless at range.
And snipers can just use one automatic sniper and an ammo crate, there’s not really a point being made against 2nd weapon as much as against automatic sniper rifles.
And as you say in 6, one has to sacrifice a backpack of some kind for the 2nd weapon, so what’s the issue?
2.Pistols are already useless, they arent made useless by competition. And people often sacrifice the 2nd weapon for a pistol+backpack regardless.
3.Cooperation by not having a second weapon? In what way?
Always having a backpack full of medkits, not needing heals?
Having extra magazines and grenades, not needing engineer ammo boxes?
If anything, it disencourages teamwork.
Engineers ALWAYS had a rifle, they led the unit to build bridges and clear mines, had to defend themselves.
Flamethrowers, Mortars and AT gunners become even more useless.
It would NOT encourage strategy, it would be annoying and people would just play a sniper over a rifleman, having a scope is better.

Like several other abominable features inherited from the battle royale, it needs to be removed. They add nothing of value and often ruin various aspects of the game. Will it ever be removed? Who knows… It doesn’t look to me like they had a clear vision for this game, but someone did make a decision to include an option to have two primary weapons.
personally I like the secondary slot don’t just remove it you still have the choice to pick the secondary slot or the backpack slot. I have always liked running with assaulter’s with a smg and rifle or smg and shotgun combination. Wish the shotguns would be fixed though.

There is no point in removing something completely when it has been there for such along time. Besides its not like its detrimental to gameplay.
the secondary is pretty important for early game, where you often find better weapons, but are often stuck with almsot no ammo for them, but you can easily fall back to you standard primary
