Fancy new event for BA’s! Wonder what we have available for 1 of our playable sides? Let’s see:
BA rifles:
Springfield M1903 - second worst starter rifle, slighty (but still) worse than G33/40. 200 silver upgrade cost (3rd upgrade is not needed).
Springfield M1903A1 USMC - slighty better version of above rifle. 300 silver upgrade cost(500 without discounts). On par with German starter rifle (2nd best after type 38 carbine).
Enfield P14 - somehow worse than starter rifle, low fire-rate and reload speed. 15 moving dispersion penalty while other BA’s have 8.
M1917 Enfield - decent firerate, very slow reload speed. 15 moving dispersion penalty while other BA’s have 8.
Ross Mk.III - the only decent gun, still slow reload speed, good fire-rate. Better than M1917 Enfield in every way.
SMLE Mk.III - BR 3, will be put against ARs. Low firerate, 15 moving dispersion penalty while other BA’s have 8.
Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk.I - BR 3, will be put against ARs. Overall very soild gun.
Probably worst selection of all 4 sides.
Germans pre-war Kar, Mannlicher M1895 or even MAS-36 and Carcano Mod.38 are better in every regard unless you desert 100 times with your BR 3 guns to get a BR 1-3 game. Japanese Type 38s are in similar position.
Suggestions:
Give same moving dispersion to P14, M1917 and SMLE. Every other BA (aside from Kar98 Mememodel) have 8, these 3 have 15.
P14 - buff RoF and lower reload to 3.0 as lowest reload speed for Allies is 3.4. It it completely useless in current form.
Buff the Ross Mk.III . It’s the worst fast firing BA in comparison to Mannlicher M1895 (3.4s reload, 76 RoF) , Type 38 (3.4s reload, 72 RoF) and Winchester M1895(3.2s reload, 76 RoF), with it’s reload speed of 3.8 and RoF only 69.
All guns have dispersion penalty when hipfiring on the move.
BA have 8, most other guns have 15, but M2/M1 carbines have 8 for example. This means their penalty is almost not noticeable, they are very accurate in hiphfring
P14, M1917 and SMLE (and Kar 98 Kriegsmodel) have 15, every other BA gun have 8. And those 4 don’t have any other notable stat to make up for this.
Yeah, what else is there to take anyway? Other side get far better rifles at BR 2, even at BR 1, while Allies get trash P14/1917, and Ross is worst compared to other nation options.
And it’s not like their other weapon classes are far better - MG’s maybe on par, but SMGs and semis - I would pick Axis guns over American\Brit stuff.
Not the biggest fan of ring sights myself. IRL they’re super useful because they protect the front sight post from getting bent, but in games I just prefer the basic Springfield irons over all the rest
Yeah hard to say one’s better than the other when all BR I-II LMG’s are absolutely garbage. Lol. And yeah we’re always behind on the SMG game, but hey at least the Thompson’s pack a punch in BR III
Nah in BR 2 I use Owen and Lanchester to great success. I am not a fan of the grease gun, but it still has its advantage. Germany only has MP-40 which is good but objectively worse than the other faction top smg at low BR (ie Lanchester, Type 2a, PPS-42/43). The MP-40 does not have a lot of good alternatives, Beretta M38 is great but it has only 20 rounds which can be tricky sometimes.
As for the Bolties, I think that Rof is not that important, finding a decent BA rifle with a sight you like is more important (I love the P14 sight), other stats are more or less the same overall. As for the dispersion, there is no reason for it to be higher on some random BA.
I won’t lie, the M3 isn’t my favorite gun. Actually, it was the first SMG I ever used and I immediately didn’t like it and didn’t use SMG’s for a long time after that. Eventually I came back to them much later on and grew to appreciate the firepower and lead throwing they bring to the table. Still though, I do think the M3 is underpowered. Either its dispersion keeps destroying its ability to be effective or some other issue with it
The Sten when I unlocked it in Normandy was “alright.” When I later went into Tunisia (post Paratrooper event) and was forced to use it I hated it. The irons are crude, the recoil makes it near impossible to effectively use at mid+ range, and its damage output just simply is not there
The Lanchester is pretty good. I’ll admit it’s probably the only Red Coat weapon I like. Recoil is next to nothing, fire rate is solid, and if you can hit heads oh boy will you down some people fast
The Thompson truly is the cream of the Allies SMG crop. High RoF, high damage, fixed sights (used to be some of the worst on certain models), and manageable recoil on most models
I’ll admit I do think I prefer the FNAB over the MP’s. It just feels like it hits harder, even when I know their damage is the same. Probably cause it has a similar chunk, chunk, chunk heavy type of firing sound like the M3 vs the lighter, almost “pew” like, sound of the MP40
Wouldn’t it be better to lower the BR of SMLE rifles to BR2 so allies have decent bolties?
Also WTF is VG2 doing in BR3? Its worse than Mannlicher 1895 and Carcano.
Darkflow is very careful when touching weapon characteristics, they don’t like to change them because that always upsets people.
