Think about the kill steal countermeasures for aircraft. For example, if it catches fire, it will be a kill, or if the wings or fuselage break and it becomes unable to fly, it will be a kill. Even if you inflict damage as mentioned above and it becomes unable to fly, it is frustrating if another player can steal the kill with just one or two shots.

I agree. it can be frustrating to catch an enemy plane on fire and then someone just go for it anyway. But a plane on fire can still shoot, so that makes sense. I think a solution could be critical damage points, where you get more than just assist, but critical damage giving you say 50 points for taking an engine out, setting it on fire, killing a gunner, sheering a wing / tail etc.
In the above cases, it is only a matter of time before the aircraft crashes and no such assistance is needed.
Fires do sometimes go out.
And if it isn’t dead yet then you haven’t killed it yet and so there is no kill to be “stolen”. If it is dead then it can’t be “stolen”.
The only “countermeasure(s) against kill steal” that should ever exist is to finish it off.
I agree, it’s extremely frustrating, you hunt a plane for 2min, manage to land some shots on it, use skills to break a wing or tail, another plane come, lands 1 shot and get the kill. And I’m not mentioning infantry using MG to get the kill.
In other games it’s okay, but here score is the most important feature, it’s used for tech tree, high score can give you a multiplier when the game ends, it’s used for some events (like NKVD now) and some daily quests require to destroy planes (up to 6).
Just do something please it’s so frustrating I just want to shut down friendly planes who does this.
