Comparing Hell let Loose and Enlisted

So I know this topic is not very Forum Material as I didn’t want to post this on subreddit because most redditors on Enlisted reddit page don’t actually own Enlisted and are just hyped for OBT so I can’t have a good conversation and discussion with them.
2 weeks ago I decided to finally buy Hell let Loose and give my opinion om both games.
I think this comparison is more than fair because both games are in early stage and are made by medium sized companies:

1. Gun balance
In Enlisted (Moscow), maps are very small so semi and non automatic weapons fall behind. SMG’s don’t deal crazy amounts of damage but terrain makes them dominate the battlefield. Bolt action rifles have low chance to kill in one shot even if every player controls 7 men. In this game where number of soldiers is very large, rifles don’t deal enough damage to kill that large amount. Semi automatic rifles are even worse, instead of being better at mid ranges than bolts these rifles deal only 8-9 damage, sometimes it’s required 4-5 shots to kill the enemy with semi-auto rifles.

Guns in Hell let loose need mostly only one shot to kill even when using pistol calibre weapons. But maps are very big so rifles are sometimes a much better choice than SMG. American troopers are armed with semi-auto M1 garand and Germans are armed with bolt-action Kar-98k.
As I was playing both teams 50/50 I can say that lacking semi automatic rifles doesn’t effect Germans at all even though M1 and Kar98 deal the same amount of damage.
At least for now I didn’t experience any imbalance regarding weapons or in hell let loose so first battle goes to hell let loose

2. Noob-friendly or not
Enlisted gameplay is very easy to cach up with. You just need tiny bit of FPS knowledge and you are good to go.

Hell let loose is much more complicated…
First of all if you don’t have your mic on, you’ll be kicked from every server you join.
Communication is the primary key to victory in this game so having no mic can be a problem.
When I just started playing, I had no idea where the enemy was which led to battles with 0 kills and 20 deaths. It took me three 45minute long battles to finally get a first kill.
The winner of the second round goes without saying

Fun
Both games are fun but in different styles.
This round I leave for comments

Weapon choice
In Enlisted, weapon choice is very big. Player can choose different types and versions of the same weapon.

In Hell let loose, we only see common ww2 weapons (StG-44 is an exception but it was probably added because of it’s popularity amongst ww2 fans).

Third round goes to Enlisted as well

HLL-1
Enlisted-2

Balance
I haven’t experienced any imbalance in hell let loose which is absolutely the opposite case with Enlisted

HLL-2
Enlisted-2

Physics
Physics in Enlisted are debatable. There is little to no invisible walls, there are no objects that have totally different physic models compared to their graphical models, good job devs.
The only big problem are soldier movement physics which are… abysmal. All soldiers in Enlisted look like robots when moving, very odd movement.

In hell let loose, I’ve seen a couple of invisible walls around the map
But
Soldier movement is beautiful. All soldiers sometimes change their way of running. For example: they can run with weapon in both hands or in just one hand, they can run while crouching which looks cool too.
I believe Hell let loose wins this one

Enlisted-2

Other
At the end we can see that Enlisted has quite a strong competitior. Also to point out that hell let loose has a much bigger community right now while Enlisted is known mostly from former WT players. We’ll see what the community difference would feel like in OBT.
Enlisted should work on balancing the game and stopping the "meat grinder* gameplay we have now.

Tell your opinion on these two in the comments. Maybe there is something I didn’t say

Gameplay wise, yes.
Progression wise, no.

I do play hell let loose, but the most interesting part of it is the realism and immersive feel when playing it. Ngl since update 8 roll out the sounds get a tremendous overhaul, increasing its immersion. Also what i like is how fluid the animations are in hell let loose…there is no meat grinder whatsoever in it since hell let loose has a bigger map than enlisted

I love the animations too. Enlisted should take notes

Yep there’s that, especially sounds and animations…i dont like how soldiers are running in enlisted, it looks weird to me

I think Enlisted soldiers when running only move with their hands and legs which is unnatural.

In HLL soldiers move their shoulders, their spine moves as they crouch or crawl. Their whole body shakes as they want to look behind them…

Progression is a must-have in F2P games so I avoided talking about it.

  • TF2, Overwatch, etc, have horizontal progression (never get stronger, only more options)
  • War thunder / Crossout, etc, have tiered progression (do get stronger, but matchmakers puts you up against people of equal strength, although they also have some vertical elements)
  • Enlisted is vertical progression (you just get stronger and get to stomp newbs)

Horiztontal / tiered > vertical
And this is objective

  • With horizontal and tiered, only skilled players have an advantage over non-skilled players, as it should be.
  • With vertical progression, you get an advantage if you paid more, or have played for long enough to make up for your lack of paying.
  • You mainly notice this with mobile gacha games, where the players with the deepest pockets dominate everyone else.

There’s nothing wrong with progression, as long as there is enough incentive to play, while also making sure new players are not penalized for not having progressed. But as it stands now, even the most skilled new players have no chance against the average guy with fully maxed out squads.

HLL most down point for me is that it has to have a mic to play the game. While DOI and RO2 dosent have to. And for PS and further realism games, they mostly need to join a clan to play the game.
So that’s one reason of why I think RO2 balanced well between realism and arcade (causal).
BTW, I has/had bought most of WW2 FPS which are available on steam. Some like Battlion 1944 was refunded. BFV, I played it via my friends account who preordered it and regret doing that for ever.

I just checked out hell let loose again. While I find that game lacking, I wish Enlisted would embrace larger maps with more tactics available.

I’m not quite sure why people keep comparing HLL to Enlisted, just because they’re both one of the few WW II FPS MMOs worth mentioning in recent years?Post Scriptum has too few people online, BFV has given up on updates to become half-baked, COD14 players are flying off the shelf after the new one came out, and RO2 is too old? The two games are almost completely different.

Enlisted has a better engine, he can do everything HLL does, and HLL doesn’t have the technical ability.

Enlisted has better large-scale maps and map details, doors, windows and various small objects. Enlisted already supports maps that can destroy buildings and transformable terrain, but everything needs polishing.

Enlisted has a squad system, which HLL doesn’t have, so they are different from this point of view. But not essentially, which means that Enlisted can do more with the squad feature. But not now. They all emphasize strategy in the game, but with Enlisted you almost only have a 200-meter flank to strike, and then there is only CQC.

Enlisted owns the planes and airfield systems, HLL will never have as many vehicles as Enlisted has.

But Enlisted’s vehicles are just stationary bastions in the gray area, they have little place to move and very little synergy with tanks. And aircraft, in many cases, are suicide missiles. This is due to the rules of the game, not the things themselves.

But they are both infantry and vehicle based FPS WWII games.

Although technically Enlisted crushes HLL in many ways, HLL is significantly more popular among players

HLL has game rules able to contain more enjoyment, for example, HLL’s replay system is good enough, while Enlisted’s replay function is only half-finished. HLL’s voice system and the communication function between players do a good job, players can effectively communicate with each other in the game. Basically this is where HLL is different from Enlisted, and this is probably what you think HLL is different from Enlisted.

But the lack of communication between players and the lack of organized battles are also Enlisted’s shortcomings.

Enlisted has more compact arcade combat, but it lacks variety and fun, you basically just do the same thing in the game, and you can’t communicate with other teammates to organize offense or defense. This is an advantage for some players because of the simplicity. But it is a disadvantage for other players, because it is boring.

As for the playable area of the map, this is the advantage of Enlisted. I can only say that it is a pity that the development team of Enlisted did not take advantage of this.

Yes they have different rules of the game. But Enlisted can accommodate more game rules. In addition to the current robot farm 200CQC mode, you can also have more. CRSED is Enlisted’s developer team’s favored brother. You can have PvE zombie mode, capture the crown mode, and airb orne escape. kill mode and so on. You can also have a gunfight or bomb mode similar to COD and CSGO. And Gun Game mode.

It’s a pity that the developers of the game imprisoned all the potential of their program in their robot farm 200CQC mode by this orange “Start Game” button. So that players say this Enlisted has become a robot farm game, oh Of course, there is also a campaign system that divides players into small pieces, and a single-line level grinding mechanism.

Among so many modes, I doubt whether the robot farm 200CQC mode can be the protagonist.

Due to the 200m CQC and the rules of the game without design. you can’t add any WWII content to the game. Everything is too powerful or completely useless, it’s just a deformity

The current mode cannot take advantage of the large map features of the Enlisted game engine and the rich vehicle and model resources behind gaijin.

Enlisted has more potential than HLL. But only potential.

The way Enlisted is going, at least the way the development team is taking, from my personal point of view they are more like the direction of CSGO.

CSGO has a very core FPS game mode, and the source engine also supports the expansion of other game mode mechanisms.

But in contrast, Enlisted’s core 200-meter CQC battle is not as sticky as CSGO. This may be due to the gradual changes in players and the market environment.

Players come here, they may have different expectations, for example, they hope to see an infantry version of War Thunder, hope to drive vehicles, hope to play the role he can play in the game, engineers build buildings, play sniper hand. But the 200m CQC battle is just very boring and excludes everything except pewpewpew rushing.

I saw Enlisted from CBT at the beginning and thought it was very fun, but day after day, although the developers occasionally brought some surprises, it always faded very quickly. This is where I feel very sorry for Enlisted.

Chinese words 食之无味弃之可惜 Tasteless to eat, but a pity to discard

It finally still hasn’t turned into a place that combines hardcore elements and entertainment.

Vehicles should be Enlisted’s strengths and a huge advantage, but they never played advantage with this, not even fun compare with BattleField V and 2042

I still find it very dramatic that two Chinese people are explaining in English on a Russian game forum produced by a Latvian studio

The Internet connects everyone
