Communications Squad and Sniper Squad should be changed to make them better suited to Enlisted Gameplay

I believe there is an issue in Enlisted where several of the Squad types are simply not worth playing once you have unlocked all of their upgrades. Clearly the Meta in Enlisted is the Assault Squad, backed up with various situational units, or units simply used to achieve daily objectives for Silver Orders.

Two of the squads that, in my opinion, suffer the most, are the Communications Squad and the Sniper Squad.

The Communications Squad was quite overpowered at the beginning of OBT, as it could perpetually keep an artillery strike active. However, with some smart changes on the developers part, the artillery is now in a good place. Interesting to use, but no longer overpowered. However, the nerf to artillery has turned the Communications Squad into a weak unit. It struggles to be competitive with other squad types and is rarely, if ever, decisive. Given that improving artillery in any way would be bad for the overall health of the game (a long separate discussion pretty well fleshed out during the debates that lead to the Artillery Mechanic nerf) I propose a different change to improve the squad. I am recommending adding one more troop to the squad to give it an opportunity to compete on a more even level. This would bring it from a maximum of five soldiers to a maximum of six. This is in line with many other squads such as the Bomber Squad or the Mortar Squad. It is also less than Assault, Infantry, Flamethrower and Machine Gun Squads. An appropriate move as it is more of an indirect unit than the Assault, Infantry, Flamethrower, and Machine Gun units which need the manpower to assault positions.

I would recommend that this position be another radio operator. This gives you three in a squad and allows you greater opportunity to call for Artillery as your squad is slowly attrited, keeping it’s signature ability intact for longer. Another option would be for the addition of another multi-choice position with a Bomber/Sniper option set. However, even if it is simply adding a basic squad size increase option it would be acceptable as late game troopers can be devastating in their own right.

For the Sniper Squad the situation is slightly different. The squad is biased towards fighting at long range. You have the ability to add an Assaulter to the squad, but only one and no ability to add a Machine Gunner to the squad. This makes the squad very poor at taking or physically defending objectives. The truly only decisive acts in Enlisted. Thus they can be fun to play, but you aren’t going to win or lose matches with a Sniper Squad. I also believe that Snipers are potentially very bad for gameplay as they excel at killing from hidden and far away positions, something that frustrates players as they lose their units to things they cannot even see and potentially can’t even counter.

Thus, I recommend the removal of one of the sniper unlocks for the squad, but an increase in overall strength of the squad from 5 to 6 troops. This change should include the addition of another choice unlock with a Bomber/Machine Gunner option. I feel this is the most appropriate because you could marry the Machine Gunner with the Assaulter to give the squad the ability to better defend and take capture points. Or you could marry the Bomber with the Bomber from the Assaulter/Bomber option to keep the squad a long range squad with two Snipers and two Bombers. As a point of clarification I am recommending the removal of the sniper as with more power this squad will become more popular, and I do not wish the game to become a sniper fest. Finally, even without giving the option to have a Bomber/Machine Gunner an increase in squad size would make the unit more viable in taking and defending capture points.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

well, unfortunately it happens for the majority of things in enlisted, from weapons, to soldiers and even vehicles.

it’s the nature it self of progression.

unfortunately, yes.

i agree.

speaking objectively,

they can offer ( fully upgraded ) 5 soldiers of a versatile attack and defend squad. depending on what you select. but, a very limited one.

you can upgrade it with a machinegunner, one radio operator and one assaulter along side two default troopers.

it’s a bit sad because with the flametrooper squad, you can archieve somewhat the same loadout ( included the radio operator but without the machinegunner and the perk) plus additional troopers. for a total of seven soldiers. two additional compared to the radio squad.

but on the other hand, it’s still a capable squad if you have premium and you can carry them in the battle.

although, it could definitely get some buffs. such as, one additional radio operator, perhaps the squad leader class as we often speaked about could play a major role as well. for somewhat have a standard firepower.

isn’t that the main point?

although, i have to disagree here.

in normandy, i have the type 3 sniper squad. and i still use it. because it’s a versatile attacker squad which comes later on handly if i have to defend.

sure, numbers are low, but their weapons depending on the campaign really affect the playstyle.
especially since they have scoped weapons.

i think they are fine as they are.
snipers are always useful after all. especially when it comes to pick out enemy enginners that are building stuff. or use them as advanced recon for marking through the scope.

i’m sorry, but majority of the squads already have somewhat of universal capability. the sniper squad should not be equal or the same.

after all, it’s not their job.

it shouldn’t have the bomber in the first place, but i can somewhat see people using the at rifle as sniper in other campaigns. and beneficts there more than normandy.

and it’s also very useful to have the radio operator to deny areas to the opponents for quite a bit.

but, this is just my opinion based on my experience.

if i have to be honest, now that i think about it, this would benefict more players with premium account more than it already currently does.

I play Moscow overwhelmingly, a point I should have made at the beginning. Anyways thanks for the in depth response.

After unlocking SVT for my snipers there days ago, I don’t fully agree with you currently, need to get a feeling about it yet. Currently I like them, but I’m bad at aiming so assaulters are still way better - I agree that assaulters are the favourites. I like machine gunners too, and radio squad is truly lacking.

But I wish to wait until smoke barrages become available in other campaigns as well beside Tunisia.
If smoke is locked to arty squad, I think they will become an important thing again.

Though my primary points are:

  • No reason to use sniper squads when you have a radio squad with a sniper
  • 7-man squads, with the exception of the flamethrower squads, are better armed for a variety of situations

While I agree that snipers are non-meta, radio squads are still very much competent.

Ever try using the PTRD Bomber AT rifle as a sniper rifle? I swear I get as good as, if not better, accuracy with it against troops. Even without the better sights of a sniper rifle! I agree with your reply to the original post as well.

The point, really, is that there is no reason to ever take these squads over pretty much every other squad in the game.

The radio squad has use.

The sniper squad? Lmao no.

Radio squad I have no problems with.

Sniper squad I agree is a problem but I’m not so sure that’s a solution or what I would say the class’s purpose is.

Snipers in Enlisted are the universal counter to specialized infantry classes (everything that isn’t a trooper or assaulter)

Gunners are far more effective at long range than snipers, but snipers are the best at killing said gunners, for example.

That being said, we need a reason to use a dedicated sniper squad rather than just putting 1 sniper in another squad in case you need it like I do.
