Dear Gaijin Team,
I am writing to address a discrepancy regarding the MG 42 machine gun’s rate of fire as represented in your game, where it is currently listed as 900 rounds per minute.
Context
The MG 42, a prominent machine gun used during World War II, is renowned for its exceptional rate of fire. Historical sources consistently indicate that the MG 42 has an average operational rate of fire of 1,200 rounds per minute. Here are some key points to consider:
Primary Sources:
The National WWII Museum notes that the MG 42 can achieve rates of fire up to 1,550 RPM in certain contexts, although 1,200 RPM is the standard operational figure.
The Wikipedia entry for the MG 42 confirms an average rate of 1,200 RPM, which is widely accepted in military history.
Discussions on platforms like Reddit and articles from the Warfare History Network also support this figure, indicating that the rate can vary but typically falls within the 800 to 1,200 RPM range.
Impact on Gameplay:
The representation of the MG 42 as having a rate of fire of 900 RPM significantly underrepresents its historical capabilities. This discrepancy may affect gameplay balance and the authenticity of the experience for players who appreciate historical accuracy.
Conclusion
Given the overwhelming evidence from primary sources, I request that you consider revising the MG 42’s rate of fire in your game to reflect its historical performance more accurately. This adjustment would enhance the authenticity of the gameplay and provide players with a more accurate representation of this iconic weapon.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.
Browning M1919A6 RoF - 550
RD-44 RoF - 830
Maxim-Tokarev RoF - 660
MG 42 100 RoF - 990
it’s already the best. But that’s not enough, you need a rate of fire of 1200, because of balance. Really?
Let’s add overheating after 20 shots then.
Trust me, you’re better off with a MG were you can conserve your ammo, and make every shot count. Take the Browning M1919A6 for example. One of the most satisfying weapons to shoot in this game, IMO. Every bullet can be accurate if you iron-sight it, and it punches hard.
Now, the thing about citing all these articles mentioning the fire rate of such family of MGs. Is that they often forget that such weapons needed extra barrel changes if they ever had to fire them at their highest rate for long periods of time. That’s why historically they trained their troops with the short-burst doctrine, also to preserve ammo. Enlisted doesn’t have that limitation from it’s real-life counter part, as it’s a videogame, thus it makes it an artificial advantage if that gun were ever to be allowed to fire at such rate. Enlisted is a game were you can wield a squad of 3 guys with 3 MG-42 100 each one, I say that’s a huge advantage already.
I personally think the German faction has it pretty good right now, overall. Sure, I also strongly believe they should’ve added the MG-42 100 since the very beginning. It was such a huge mistake on their part not having it since early on. Otherwise we wouldn’t be having this dilemma so further into this game’s life. And instead, all those protoype’s we’ve had so far (MG-39, MG-42 early, MG-45’s, etc) should’ve just been added later on, to fill a certain niche, with their incredibly high fire rate, thus making them all the rarer. But that’s a different topic, and ship long ago sailed, now we must look forward.
Now I find that the MG-42 100 is the absolute best it’s ever been, out of all same family of MGs, and it made very redundant some of those old legacy squads, in my opinion. With their 50 round drum mags, it feels “weak” now lmao.
As a German player enjoyer (and of all the other factions in the game) I propose we instead ask collectively for the MG-34 100 next. The time has come. And it has to be tech-tree, as it’s reasonable.
As the biggest MG42 100 fan boy here, I must reject any attempts aimed at nerfing MG42 by increasing its fire rate thus forcing players to reload more often.
If you want to complain about MG42, complain about its reload speed which is slowest out of all MGs.
I mean from what a really cool moderator told me is that mg42 with the fire rate of 1,200 is already in the game as the nest guns in D-Day and the one in the TT is the heavy bolt version so its actually Historically accurate but like the other people said why do you need more rate of fire tho? The MG42 shoots faster then any allied MG and almost every allied gun too adding more will just deplete the belt faster trust me if anything It’s best to have it as this but this is my opinion tho so yeah
UPDATE: yes apon some more research the MG 42 though originally had a Rate of fire of over 1,200 the heavier bolts added in later models did bring its rate of fire down in a historically accurate manner. though I would find the MG 42 with a better rate of fire would represent this legendary weapon much better I do understand that the heavier bolt model was more common for standard MG squads.
I do appreciate all the feedback from most of you, and I will say that the MG 42 with its fully accurate fire rate should totally be added as either an event weapon or premium weapon.
It’s like saying that the PPSH41 and the Thompson with their high Rates of Fire are Event Weapons, an iconic weapon should not be limited to its full Raw Power. When it was the factory standard
Regarding the bolts, the Factory Version was 1200, the light version reached 1500What were the Commons for Surpassing the MG34 and MG34/41 with its Rate of Fire of 1200 did not continue its production due to the Improvement of The MG42
In my opinion As a fan of the German Army and this beautiful and fantastic weapon I do not agree with your opinion on the reduction in the rate of fire of this weapon. The MG45 with its 1650 Rate of Fire plus US Reload Speed of 3.8 seconds This is what the TT MG42 should be, obviously also with its 250cc belt.
This weapon must be taken advantage of as a strength of this Nation. Like the ones the Soviets have with their submachine guns and the Allies with their semi-automatic fighters.
What you mention about the excessive cadence can also be said about the SPAM that Germany has been receiving for years and this complaint in the Forum is not well received. By fans of both factions and they take it as a joke But when something benefits them they don’t say anything Bad about the Game Balance
