Chinese M1917 Carbine
During WWII, China had sent an expeditionary force to aid in the defense of Burma against the Japanese. This measure failed and Burma fell. Chinese troops retreated, with many running to British India. These displaced troops were gathered into a group known as X-force and reorganized under Sun Li-jen and US General Joseph Stilwell. They were retrained and re-equipped by the U.S. military and used a spearhead for retaking the Ledo Road. Following WWI the M1917 was retained as a second line rifle or given to allied nations as foreign aid. In WWII many were refurbished and brought back into service from storage. Naturally, the M1917 was used to rearm elements of X-force. Chinese troops had trouble with the long, heavy rifles, which had been difficult for U.S. troops as it was. It’s uncertain who made the request or even who made the modifications, but some number of the roughly 10,000 provided rifles were shortened for ease of use. This was done by chopping back the barrel, stock and handguard, repositioning the rear swivel, and fitting the butt plate back to the gun. Our example also displays serial numbers added to the bolt handle and magazine floor plate, which are not standard for the M1917 as fielded by the US. These guns were carried through WWII, the Chinese Civil War, and also apparently turned up in the Korean War. They are uncommon in collecting circles and certainly merit further study.
Cool weapons, especially the 1917 carbine, however except said carbine, most of these weapons are civil warprkducts or otherwise should be limited to the theoretical Chinese faction, which atm is the western allies.
Chinese faction, not going to happen at least not in the next three years. the allies do not need weapons as much as japan. not enough gear for a Chinese faction without copy paste japan, us and russian gear no thanks.
The issue being next to none of these weapons fit the Japanese, and any chinese weapons that could, would already be in japanese service.
