I know that any proposed changes to zoom must really make sense, because we know how important this part is for many players. This may be another of the “me case” series, but I’ll try to present it anyway.
Currently, the zoom looks like this:
- is 80% of normal zoom
- and maybe 20% zoom generates holding breath along with less gun wobble.
I suggest reducing the normal zoom value and then buffing the breath holding to make its zoom larger.
(to be clear, I mean a slight tweak, around 20%)
The reason being, from my own experience, I use holding breath very rarely and it is practically unnecessary for me, and at the same time the regular zoom is often too large than I need. I think it would also make more sense that focusing at a long distance would require a little more input. It might help the flow of the game because currently players can shoot at extremely long distances with ease, which may distract them too much from the action around them.
I suggest that regular zoom should only really be used in mid range fights and holding breath zoom should be used in long range fights. I think the positive effect could be a reduction in camping, making players more focused on the battle, as distant fights would require more informed decisions and also would be limited by the ability to hold breath, thus making the perk holding breath more valuable.
Additionally, some buff could be introduced for the duration of holding your breath when bracing your weapon, it would be quite logical, when you are at rest you can focus your vision better. This would be a very important part of distance combat, which would only deepen the loss of camping that I have already mentioned, due to the fact that there is not always something to lean on.
even though holding your breath in reality doesn’t actually have any effect on our peripheral vision, which would basically mean no zoom at all, it would be an effective mechanic to improve the flow of fights. This is just a game after all.
