Changes to BR II / BR III Allied MGs

Introduction

As we are all aware, the Devs are in no way interested in adding a Lewis Gun or M3 Half Track to the Allies (even though they were the most prolific users). However, I have come up with a compromise so that we may finally get some better MGs in BR II and BR III.

Best part is, no new guns are required, just some tweaking by the Devs. Let me spell it out:

It means no effort to implement. (That’s for you devs).

Win win for everyone.

The idea

The sad reality is I don’t think we will ever get a tech tree Lewis Gun (sorry @OggeKing and other pro-UK gamers - myself included). But, I have thought of some compromises we could do to instead fill in the gaps in the Allied MG tree - without having to add new weapons.

It revolves around two crucial MGs - The Vickers Berthier and the Browning M1918/A1. These are two weapons that really have no place in their respective BRs, being overshadowed by the Brens and the BARa2 respectively. But, with this suggestion, they may actually have a case for using them.

So without further ado, let me explain.

The Vickers Berthier

It’s a fairly simple request.

Increase the Rate Of Fire for the Vickers Berthier to 600 (660) rpm and uptier to BR III.

The Vickers Berthier has been historically noted to have a ROF from 450 rpm to 600 rpm. I feel the 600 base ROF wouldn’t be a stretch, since the PPS variants are actually using their highest ROF (the lowest listed was actually 500 rpm for both the 42 and 43).

Sure, it may not be the Lewis Gun with 47 rounds. But it’s a Vickers Berthier, with 30 rounds, basically a better BAR (at least in the MG role). Plus, it was used widely throughout the British Army (the majority being the British Indian Army). But it wouldn’t be out of place for the tech tree MG squad.

I have included the Type 96 as a basis of how it would compare to contemporary weapons.

The BAR 1918

I’m not sure whether it should be just the 1918 variant, or whether the A1 variant should be foldered as well. But regardless, the suggestion is also simple (@Luvs2spooge should be happy).

Downtier the BAR 1918/A1 and nerf dispersion, movement speed, ADS speed, and reload speed.

They don’t have to be massive nerfs, but just enough to make it competitive with other BR II MGs. I’m going to use the MG 13 as an example, as it’s the closest thing (tech tree) in BR II. It too has 600 (660) rpm, 12.0 (14.4) damage, and 25 rounds (5 more than the BAR).

That is not a very large power difference at all. As mentioned before, the biggest differences are mostly dispersion (espeically while moving), ADS speed, and recoil. The rest are even matches.

Conclusion

Thanks for reading through this lengthy suggestion. I have read time and time again from Allied players about how much they want the BAR downtiered to BR II. I feel to be honest, the M1A1 Thompson is a more powercreepy weapon than the BAR would ever be.

Either way, I hope this suggestion comes to fruition, as it solves two issues at once - the American MG dilemma of BR II, and the British MG dilemma of BR III.

Vickers can receive 2000 ROF It’s still bad, so it doesn’t matter what BR is, but BAR has to continue in BR3, it’s too strong for BR2

more proto/ paper machine guns for allies please. joking but I think that the allies LMG are in a good spot and dont need to move around. I like playing British squads at br2 while US squads at br3. the only thing I am currently hatting is that smoke from the barrel like its being sprayed with water for like a whole 5 mins while its still hot making it impossible to shoot at medium range after reloading

Better reduce Johnson LMG rate of fire and put it in BR II since in reality this gun had much less rate of fire and give another BR IV LMG to the allies.

BAR is vastly superior to the crappy MG13, i will gladly trade 5 rounds to get all stats upgraded except vertical recoil. It needs some big nerfs and MG13 should also receive few buffs to it’s awful visual recoil and it’s horizontal recoil. Or we could have it’s stats be the same and upgrade MG13 all across the board to match that BAR.

mmmnh, maybe

I didn’t hear no bell.

I’ll continue to ask for lend-lease Soviet gear to also be given to their rightful owners, nagging has proven to be a effective tool after all. Not to worry, I have ideas for how such things should be implemented, especially the question of proper tech tree APCs (not just trucks).

As for the suggestion itself, BR II BAR is a good idea, and a higher RoF VB (as long as it’s historical) could work as it would satisfy my feelings that “weapons of the same family shouldn’t be arbitrarily made different just to be different”. The VB is a different gun with a different history and makes more sense than the MK I and Mk II BRENs being totally different despite them mechanicly being the same gun.

So, in short, I support. :+1:

M1918 has 9% faster aiming than A1 or A2 (0.65 ADS speed compared to 0.6 of A1/A2), in other stats it’s almost identical to A1, and Vickers Berthier is almost identical to Brens. I genuinely don’t understand why people follow this trend other than “because I want a bri’ish MG at BR 3 and an american one at BR 2”.

Why putting th Vickers into BR3?
Even after ROF buff, it is still arguably the worst Bren and not a OP BR2 LMG.
It anything, move it down to BR1.
