Change the way AP work by making it have a directional trigger ( tripwire )

The current AP mine work more like an explosive with motion sensing trigger.

There should be a visible wire of limited length connecting the mine to a stake. This require more careful consideration for mine placement as the mine trigger would be directional. Observant players would also have the ability to spot the trap more easily, thus influence how they proceed and make the gameplay more interesting.

  • AP mine deployment should be separated in 2 stages, the first stage is planting the mine by dropping it on the ground, the second is dropping the tripwire stake.

  • The AP mine, tripwire, and the stake should all be visible in the game world.

  • AP mine should only trigger when the player or vehicle go through the tripwire connecting the mine to the stake.

  • The player should be able to swap between the mine and the stake in the same manner as swapping between the TNT charge and the detonator.

  • To make the user experience of placing mine easy and precise there should be a preview of the wire in addition to where the mine and wooden stake would land when drop on the ground, a similar visual representation to when an engineer pull out the hammer to build.

  • The AP mine arming count down should start only after the mine and the stake have been planted.

  • If possible allow player more interaction with enemy mine like cutting the wire to disarm it, or maybe turn the enemy mine against them. No need for any fancy animation, a short progress wheel to show the interaction process would suffice.

Example of what placing directional trigger AP mine in 2 stages could look like:

There are way more simple solutions:

Give the old damage models back and:

  • Add placing time of about 5 secs
  • Keep the sensitive radius of other explosions. When one mine detonates, other in a certain radius will detonate too → no mine spam.
  • Alternative: Only sniper, paras and engineers can be equiped with ap-mines, but to get the numbers fairly up they can use 2-3 mines per soldier (or just 1 per soldier - I dont care, but give me those old values back!!).
