Change how fire rate upgrade works for automatic weapons

Hello bajtársak and fellow forum dwellers,

Today I will talk about why the fire rate increase of automatic weapons needs to be removed.
To discuss this topic a basic familiarity with weapon upgrades is necessary
in Enlisted each weapon category has slightly different weapon upgrades

here they are

It’s always the second upgrade that increases the fire rate
For SMGs this increase is 15%
For LMGs this increase is 10%
For Select Fire rifles this increase is 10%
For Assault Rifles there is no increase

My main concern against the current system is that it’s percentage based, so the lower fire rate weapons that actually need the fire rate increase actually get less.
Take for example the M1919A6 and MG81

M1919A6 and MG81

For the M1919A6 the increase is too small to matter, while
For the MG81 the increase only solidifies its advantage in fire rate.

Another issue is historical accuracy
The fire rate of the MG81 was 1600 rpm max while the M1919A6 was around ~500 rpm.
Most weapons in game already have their highest fire indicated by sources which then gets increased by 10%/15% and only a handful of guns such as MG42 is still within its historical fire rate parameters after the fire rate increase upgrade.

I believe it would be much better if the fire rate increase was replaced with fire rate selection.
The player should be able to adjust the weapons´ fire rate within historical values in the game lobby.
fire rate selection

historical examples: depending on the bolt installed in the firearm
MG42 has three settings: 900 rpm, 1200 rpm, 1500 rpm.
Pps-43 has two settings: 600 rpm, 700 rpm
Mp40 has two settings: 500 rpm, 550 rpm
Vickers-Berthier has three settings: 450 rpm, 500 rpm, 600 rpm

TL;DR:

SMGs should get no fire rate increase from weapon upgrades.
MGs should get no fire rate increase from weapon upgrades.
SF rifles should get no fire rate increase from weapon upgrades.
Let players customize fire rate instead within historical parameters.

Furthermore
Just like all other automatic weapons, machine guns should get 10% vertical and 10% horizontal fire rate reduction with the second weapon upgrade because currently they only get 10% fire rate increase from the second weapon upgrade.
The fire rate upgrade will stay the same for bolt-action rifles, semi-auto rifles and anti-tank rifles because the current system does work well for them.

Thank you for your time and attention!

Time to add a third setting (1100rpm) and uptier it to BR3 when selected

With such a high fire rate of the steyr Mp40, it would increase its BR.
It was requested before that the game should let players change the magazine of fire arms which would increase or decrease BR but that is probably not possible due to spagetthi code.

Sadly, such a different fire rate weapon will end up added as a separate gun instead.

What you’re saying is that we simply can’t have weapons with a low rate of fire.

No, thank you. They don’t have any significant bonus to rate of fire, which would just destroy the only thing that makes them unique.

I like my weapons with a low rate of fire. Especially for their ability to provide longer sustained fire. (I’m not one to use AVS for sustained fire).

It’s so annoying how many people just want to simply remove low rate of fire weapons from the game completely.

They really need to add dislike button to this forum.

you are completely wrong.
Removing fire rate increase makes both the fire rate and DPS difference smaller between high and low fire rate guns.

Your low fire rate guns are NOT in danger with this suggestion.
contrary actually:

you could keep using AVS-36 with 600 rpm instead of 800 rpm which was forced on us with recent update.

Then you argumentation to implement any kind of change simply doesn’t make sense.

They’re not in need of some higher percentage.

Total nonsense. It would just make the weapons less distinct from each other, since most of them could be modified to similar rates of fire. For example German Mgs.
.

What else? Will players be able to set recoils, dispersions?

The sad thing is that they fire too slow. The M3A1 is only pegged to do 410 rpm currently, but in real life it could do 450 rpm. And as mentioned many times before, the FNAB could do 600 - 800 rpm.

It wasn’t very common for a SMG to fire slower than 500 rpm during WWII because they knew even back then it was too slow to be effective.

But you already have many alternatives with higher rof available in the game.

I’m more interested in the gameplay element than if the weapon is off by 40 in rate of fire compared to historical values.

cool concept

Big, do it !!

I like the general concept, but I don’t know if I would necessarily “replace” the RoF upgrade with it.

If it were up to me (and it isn’t), I’d even consider removing the RoF upgrade altogether (replace it with something like a reload, recoil, dispersion buff), and depending on the weapon, give them this feature.

A perfect example is this video of the AVT-40. Whether the gas setting is set to 1.5 or 1.7, there is a small difference in firing rate:

Now, not every gun is going to be compatible with this feature, but I think it’s novel enough to be considered “asymmetrically balanced” against contemporaries that lack it, without being innately better. If a gun lacks the feature, just give it a historical rate of fire, and balance accordingly.

I should also add that circumstantially, I could see this system being used for bolt mass changes, in addition to weapons with an adjustable gas setting. This would include weapons such as the MG-42 (900 RPM → 1200 RPM), so long is the change isn’t so dramatic that it warrants being it’s own gun in a different BR (MP.40 500 → 1100 RPM).
