I just bumped into the video of Gun Jesus and noticed a very decent idea.
Why not do the censorship of swastikas in this sense? For me personally, it would be much more preferable to the current fictional and very immersion breaking flag.

I really donât want to see mosaics in the game. Enlisted doesnât seem to be a pixel game.
I would rather see some fictional design than pixel art personally
I know itâs not what you are talking about but it would be hilarious to have proper markings on textures and then artificially add a 2d rectangle (with straight horizontal and vertical edges) that blurries them, like a lazy censorship on a video.
It would be funny to look at.
About youâd idea, Iâm neutral
Thatâs literally what I have meant. Just like in Sims for example.
But I guess I have bad taste. And community prefers the current version.
Theoretically adding this filter could be on a toggle in the settings tho. So both groups could be satisfied.
From what I understand you want a blurred texture.
What I wrote is a magical, floating rectangle obstructing the view.
Would look worse and people would think its a bug.

Technically a good censorship should be, with the censorship for default applied to every faction, once a new player log in a prompt tell him
âCensorship is for default activated go in options to disable itâ
In option he find
That would be the dream, but I doubt we will ever see it, thought for me, Ive grown so used to it by now, it doesnt bother me too much.
Yes, censorship should be an option for people who live in countries that do not outlaw the imagery. Harmony mode already exists in the game right now, the framework is already in the game
I mean it wouldnât hurt cause it could be optional to have the flags historically accurate to the user that enables it but by default it could mentioned its in safe mode and can be changed anytime if the so user chooses
Canât do that. Itâs flat illegal in many areas of Europe with some pretty steep penalties.
On the IT/software development side, it makes things MASSIVELY more complicated.
On one hand, GDPR means that youâre limited in the information you can collect and process about your customers, specifically Location Data (Oh, thatâs been a PITA in my day job), which is what you need to do the geolocation to ensure that youâre not serving up content that will sink your whole company to someone living in a region where serving up that content canâŚsink your whole company. This hand is 100% risk and no reward.
On the other hand, doing something like that means now youâre creating and maintaining duplicate art assets for a LOT of things. This hand is 100% effort and no reward.
They donât, and havenât, because (like every other game going back to WWII Online in 2001) you have limited resources to âdo stuffâ with, and you have to use those hours wisely.
And finally, putting âHistoricalâ art into the game is just going to invite the events of Season 1 Episode 3 of Mythic QuestâŚ
Yes I proposed something like that.
The main thing seems to be countries like Germany who very stupidly complain everytime they see âthe symbolâ even when it is on a model aeroplane of a Finnish aircraft for example (the Finnish air force used it before Failed Painter turned up)
Also kinda funny in a way that people are fine with the fact you can run around as a Wehrmacht soldier (basically a N@zi though it is true that not all German soldiers were N@zis) and shoot Allied soldiers.
But if the building in the background has The Symbol flying from it thats a terrible outrage and the game should be shut down!
Some people are okay with it given its an historical context, others are against it ever, so yeah giving players an option to turn on or off, just like gore, is a good idea.
Id also add if I may that if we ever get Sino-Japanese War they could add a similar toggle for the Republic of China flag/Nationalist flag which was the correct flag for China in a WWII context but we are aware the current government of the Peopleâs Republic of China does not approve of.
I like that you added Soviets and Japanese as well, since it really is a double standard at times. I seem to recall an article about some Asian countries being uncomfortable with Japanese Naval Self Defence Force ships flying the Rising Sun flag, the same flag their grandfathers flew as they committed horrid atrocities.
Iâve seen 4 similar topics closed. and always with the same comment. Swastikas will not be in the game under any pretext. This is prohibited by law, it is prohibited by the rules of the game. This is a public demonstration. It is forbidden.
But the people on this forum are not learners.
for special gifted, swastika can be in single player game. and this is online multiplayer game. so using swastika is public demonstration. it is prohibited by law in many countries.
What do you mean? Mosaic filter is illegal?
No, noâŚ
âpublic display, distribution, or glorification of Nazi symbols, including the swastikaâ are restricted to at least SOME degree in:
Germany
Austria
France
Poland
Italy
Hungary
Czech Republic
Slovakia
Spain
Romania
(not criminal, but falls under Hate Speech)
The United Kingdom
Sweden
Norway
Finland
(Legal, but also legally âproblematicâ - fighting takedowns, PR backlash, etc.)
Brazil (illegal for propaganda purposes, but generally problematic overall)
Israel (DUH)
Russia (Enforcement is low, but often politically motivated. Risky!)
China (Not illegal, but often auto-flagged by the tightly controlled censors)
South Korea (Taboo - Public backlash likely)
Japan (Culturally avoided as taboo)
SoâŚitâs easier (read: Less expensive, less lawsuits to defend against, better public reputation) to just leave the whole Nazi Imagery thing at the door and use one globally acceptable replacement for everyone.
Your âpixelationâ suggestion implies that The Real Deal would be underneath, and users (in non-problematic areas) could turn off the pixelation and see The Real Deal if they wantedâŚ
But that opens up the whole can of worms of "User is in Canada (not problematic) but Streaming our Game to Germany (VERY problematic)âŚ
This is why 25 years worth of games have just set The Real Deal to the side and treated it like a roadkill skunk baking in the july sun in Texas.
