Here’s my beef for the day: Too many people who play this game lack the understanding of the major premise of the game [ I had to rephrase the original draft of this first sentence since the honesty of my first draft would have gotten this post deleted ]. I’ve literally seen people standing 2 feet outside the cap zone sniping—and they will not set foot inside the zone. And this isn’t a few people here and there: It’s a majority of the population of players.
I just finished a game where everyone was relying on attrition to win—again, unwilling to cap. The central theme for this game is capping points—yet many think it’s a team death match. Military FPS shooters like this have been around for at least the last 25 years, yet the greater part of the population of players still don’t understand how to play (or win). They are way too concerned about their k/d and believe that they are going to lead the team to victory by sniping.
Does anybody have any ideas how to break this spell? It gets quite annoying!
One suggestion that I have is to give anybody who caps a point by themselves bonus XP. Also, anybody who plays 10 games or more without capping at least 1 point should lose XP—to be determined.
We got too many CoD transplants who only played TDM and nothing more. They don’t know what an “objective” is, and definitely don’t know how to play it. It sucks
I think there already is bonus for full cap, but there is a problem with it. Namely, it’s a bit unfair for early pushers, and it won’t incentivize loiters to attack the point outside of jumping in for a second to get free points. Objective contesters will die after contesting the point for 90% of progress, just for some K/D warriors to enter for the remaining 10% and get the same or more points than them.
Killing enemies is way more rewarding than rushing into the cap zone having half of your squad die in the process just to get 100 XP for capture than die to artillery or HVAR/HE shells.
Victory bonus should be replaced with “good teammate” bonus: people who captured the objective and built rallies, so leaches that hugged vehicle or spent the match camping dont get the bonus, but useful players get the bonus regardless of which faction won.
This would be much more fair.
Whatever gets them in, even at the end, though I personally prefer my first suggestion more about calculating based on how many squad members you have in the zone.
Maybe a system where you get:
+5 for you
5+4 for 2 members
5+4+3 for 3 members
5+4+3+2 for 4 members
5+4+3+2+1 for 5 members
5+4+3+2+1+1 for 6 members
and so on.
Like it aint perfect, but whatever gets more people on the point. on the Flip side, I think they should be a defender bonus for holding the point.
Like +50 every minute as long as your physically standing in the point.
Yeah, it drives me crazy too. Plus, I’m not horrible at assault, but I’m by far from the best. But, I’ve been playing strategic FPS since they came out (or PVP MMOs), and have always been the type to capture (or carry) the flag, capture points, play support, defend flags, whatever - b/c I like to WIN.
Exactly. I’ve seen people on this forum brag about it. I care far more about my win percentage than I do my K/D. It also has the pleasant side-effect of helping those K/D chasers as well, at least when we can pull out a win.
honestly I think objectives should be enlarged, that should’ve helped, personally I just hate those small tiny objectives and no wonder people stay away from this meat grinder especially if they haven’t any automatic weapons. This also would reduce the impact of single veteran players capturing objectives by themselves.
Yeah, same here: I’m just an average player trying to win. I mostly engineer or tank. Always putting down spawn points, ammo crates, med kits, etc. However, it’s pointless if the enemy overruns you within a few minutes. All that work for nothing.
Is it rewarding to lose? Half the team usually believes what you believe. Unfortunately, getting people to change their beliefs is next to impossible—even with solid facts and evidence. If you don’t cap and get on the point, most of the time you’re going to lose—whether you’re attacking or defending. That’s a fact, especially if you’re attacking because the defending team has unlimited lives; thus, you can’t snipe your way to a victory.
And if half your squad dies on the way in (or on the point), so what! What’s the aversion to dying? It’s an FPS shooter. You’re going to die. Doesn’t matter! You don’t win this game by sniping in the rear so you can stay alive. That gets you nothing.
The way to win is to push hard and push fast. If the entire team does that, then you’re almost guaranteed a win.
