Can You Actually Use a Joystick To Control Aircraft In-Game?

Can you actually get a flight stick to actually work with this game? I tried to setup my Thrust Master HOTAS 4 but could never get it to work like with any other Flight Simulator. I find it very hard to control the aircraft with the keyboard… Especially trying to pull out of a dive. It is as if my elevator has frozen over with heavy ice. Also, I have found that you cannot use the middle mouse wheel to progam in order to drop a bomb from the plane. It is very hard to pull out of a dive after dropping your payload if you have to occupy the hand controlling the keyboard with also dropping the bomb. I have my mouse programmed now where ZOOM (Right-Mouse Button) drops the bombs but that make it where I cannot ZOOM during the flight without having to once again use the left hand’s fingers to do so which makes the ability to do sharp and sudden maneuvers nearly impossible. Please advise.

If by joystick you mean console, well I fly pretty good so I’d say yes

I tried using my Peripheral’s as well, several months ago and it didn’t work, I was told at the time that the system doesn’t really support them, so you have to use your mouse and the keyboard or a game controller thing I guess, once you get used to the back ass words nature of it it actually does seem to work fairly well, the problem is that the Rudder Control is handled by the system so the control authority is kind of weak when it comes to rudder input, But it is for everybody, it’s pretty slapdash gimmicky kind of cheesy the way it’s currently set up but it does work after a fashion, it’s best if you try not to think about it too much because if you try to compare it to what you’re used to it will slow down the learning process just turn your brain off and slip into stupid mode and it will work because it is stupid the way it works if that makes any sense at all

yes, but it is very floaty compared to other flight games. i use flightstick (VKB gladiator NXT)+ mouse to look around sometimes. it could be good because you might be able to pull tighter turns than the ‘instructor’ (how the game translates mouse pointer to flight maneuver) allows. so it can be better for fighters to turn. for attackers normal mouse controls are better because aiming is easier. you can also set a key to disable flight instructor and use both modes as you wish, not optimal but can be done.

Nah, I am using PC. I have been flying flight sims on PC since 1989. I cannot control console game pads that have joysticks. I am better off just using the keyboard but the problem with pulling out of a dive whilst trying to resume maximum engine power and turning off the air brake is nearly impossible. I’ve had to resort to near level bombing which is hit or miss on the accuracy especially within the urban environments this game has most combat set in.

So if I were to turn on Instructor I would have better ability to pull out of dives using the keyboard?

using the keyboard? no-instructor would only make sense if you use the flightstick. then you could also set a positive trim to help get out of the dive.

personally, what I use is mouse+keyboard, and i do shallow dives (30-40 degrees). get close and drop all bombs as they vanish beneath the sights, or the lower part of the sight ring. i don’t find airbrakes to be necessary. with time you can get pretty accurate, even if it’s not a 90o angle dive. this game favours quick trips back and forth from the ressuply point, so there’s not much time to climb to be able to do a 90o dive.

LOL, what a joke. Tried to setup my HOTAS to fly aircraft and it completely botches the mapping. Yet the ridiculous number of required systems you have to control manually can’t be don’t on a console controller. So you have to either use K&M or use console controller and keep dropping it in order to use your keyboard. Who “developed” this game, FISHER PRICE?
