Yeah, switching between soldiers can be quite disorienting. Not sure how that issue can be fixed beyond forcing the soldier to look in the same direction that the player was when they switch. Though, then, when playing, if the enemy can actually SEE the whole squad, it would probably look strange and a bit funny to see them all, one-at-a-time in quick succession, look in the direction of them but possibly without shooting. Know what I mean? Maybe the camera points to them but the soldier is still looking in a different direction unless the player actually stops the soldier-swapping and starts to engage the enemy? I dunno. This is a new FPS system to me and it’s hard to know how it should be handled. There ARE annoyances, but can they all be ironed out in a realistic way that doesn’t ruin things for realism or for other players? I hope Gaijin has a good team, hopefully some people who know firearms back-and-front too.
You could add a reload command to the alt menu, or you could make the one AI reload at a time while not actively engaged in combat.
Yes, the one-at-a-time while not in combat, I may well end up experimenting with that when I get the opportunity to do so in-game. I think it would be quite easy; just Y/R over and over and each soldier should one-by-one reload. I still like the reload command though, like if you think stuff’s about to go down and you want your troops ready for you, give the command, maybe not until you yourself have reloaded if necessary so that you can help cover them as they reload. I must say I’m rather excited to see what they do with this game, can’t wait to be able to command individual soldiers instead of all NPC soldiers in my squad at once. At least for now you can hit ‘X’ while looking at a constructed thing (like an empty ammo crate) and one of your soldiers, seemingly at random, will disassemble it. Likewise you can order them to come and give you ammo, or to heal you.
I like the ammo one in particular even though it’s kind of something you can use to exploit the game. Many times, with at least one of my squadmates surviving, I find a fairly safe place from which to snipe the enemy generally from 150m or farther, sometimes over 200m, and my squadmate will be somewhere safe but in a place nearby where they can come up, give me ammo, and then shag off back to their cover. You can only have 2 rounds left at most before they’ll come give you ammo. I’ve found that I was able to snipe dozens and dozens of rounds beyond initially running out. As soon as I’m down to 2, hit the button for the commands (which I moved to the tilde key) and then hit the button to reload, which I think is 2. Pretty sure 3 is to heal, and 5 is artillery. I’ve gotten quite adept at holding over enemies heads at a distance to compensate for bullet drop, and leading enemies who are running horizontally to me to closeline them with a bullet once they get to my point of aim. Yup, I love realistic ballistics like that, and it feels so satisfying to manage 3-4 hits within 5 shots at that distance. Been doing long-distance shooting on videogames for years, including RO2 and RS. Very limited success at 400m+, but LOTS of success within about 330m, even on prone targets. Small, but hey, if they stay still long enough… I’ll get 'em
