Currently, your squad lags behind like they usually do and if you were to charge someone, you’d be doing it alone. I think it would be a cool idea if there were at least a squad command to do a banzai charge were everyone in your squad would charge with you.
The “magic and novelty” of the “banzai” mechanism soon wore off for me when I realized that usa troops could also do it…
They should’ve made it Japanese only. Not that usa faction would suffer much without it…
Wait wen you can do this in all campaigns
What will the german scream when they charge?
“SSSSCHNITZEEEEEELLLL!!!”
@gastanofrizzi @Conscript_Joe you kinda have been " late " to the discovery.
and basically the pacific introduced the feature for all campaigns.
and also : PRETZEL SAAAAAALTZ
I knew as soon as pacific got released… only I’m disappointed in it.
I hoped the banzai charge would be Japanese only, to make this historically underequiped faction unique and interesting.
Japanese soldiers in ww2 were fierce, zealots even and did not surrender (or almost never). Would have balanced out a lil.
Usa troops however, weren’t fanatics, they didn’t want to charge to their deaths for their president. So seeing them do so in Enlisted feels…
… Off.
And russians not yelling “URAAAA” when they charge is disappointing…
Nah, adding it to every campaign and every side is fine.
What they should’ve done is give some bonuses to Japanese (and only them) while doing the charge. A couple of ideas that came to my mind just now:
- killing a soldier performing the Banzai charge doesn’t take a ticket from the Japanese team’s ticket count,
- when a soldier performing the Banzai charge gets hit, he doesn’t slow down,
- performing the Banzai charge drains stamina as fast as a regular sprint, not as fast as the bayonet charge for other factions.
Similar mechanic was present in the absolute classic of a game, Red Orchestra 2: Rising Storm - when a Japanese soldier blew himself up with a grenade, it wasn’t counted as suicide and it didn’t take your points away.
Since the Pacific came out.
Just you can only do it if you have a bayonet, a sword, or best of all, a hatchet.
Soviets too. Russian and then Soviet soldiers were famous for their charges. They could give the Soviets different effects from the Japanese, but there has to be something.
Then again, it’s Enlisted so I wouldn’t expect anything but the laziest things implemented.
…
I never tried with an hatchet before. That made my day!!!
Yeah it’s not really fair if the USA gets an apple pie baseball cowboy charge too
Charging wasn’t invented by the Japanese.
So it’s just a bayonet attack.
I think this has been done by all sides in all wars, since the beginning of the appearance of muskets with a bayonet.
True, Soviet charges were famous as well, but I thought about it more as a balancing factor - Soviets usually aren’t the underpowered side in Enlisted.
But yes, some distinct effents for them would be cool as well.
Noooooo fÔreal?¿
You don’t say!
To that I answer “well DUH”, captain obvious. And to refer yourself to the part where I mentioned that usa troops were not fanatics, but Japanese were. Charging blindly under mg fire was not the way to go after ww1 trenches…
In ww1 before do this attacker shelled the trench for hour and after order the assault, during the attack maybe there was even use of smoke screen or improvised shield
Usually the attack on the trench was successeful and the defender need retreat, but the immediete counterattack of the defender second line troops all time force the attacker to fall back
Japanese instead
“Lest charge in open field, screeming, withaut any kind of support or plan”
100% best idea even
It was, to them, honourable deaths.
They knew they were going to die anyway: usa had much more equipment and support.
So instead of inevitably wasting away one by one, which they knew was inevitable, they thought
“Fuck it, let’s go out with a blaze of glory instead”.
It was inspiring. It’s what I hoped DF would portray by implementing this mechanism that they even named “banzai charge”.
But making this available to everyone really removes how special it is, and playing Japan isn’t that interesting anymore: it’s just an underdog faction atm, without anything special whatsoever going for them.
In fact. Do you remember Rising Storm banzai charges?
Tripwire managed the feat of creating a perfectly balanced game… with very, veeery uneven weapons.
Usa had powerful automatics, exellent semis, BARs etc.
Japan had rifles, and some okayish lmgs.
Banzaï charges were exclusive to Japan however, and gave them special bonuses:
- better speed
- slight resistance to wounds, meaning you kept running
- created “fear” in close by usa troops (caused shell shock effect, disrupting aim)
Most of the time… it meant usa mowed down the Japanese team. But when it worked… oh boy was that amazing.
Playing Japaneses, the underequiped underdogs, wss fun. Felt unique.
In Enlisted it’s just meh, “carry on”.
