I’ve heard some people, including content creators, saying that the campaign system, while unique, has some disadvantages, such as grinding the same stuff multiple times (like the MP 40 that’s in every campaign) or possible problems with further development. While reading the forum, I’ve encountered couple of threads suggesting adding campaigns like the Battle of the Bulge or the Battle of Stalingrad. The main argument against those seemed to be “It’s gonna be Invasion of Normandy in winter” or “It’s gonna be Battle of Moscow with city maps” respectively.
And I agree with everything above, so I came up with a way of adding more content (both maps and progression levels) without adding a lot of nearly identical (or identical) progression “trees” to the game.
My idea is to:
First of all, change the name “campaign” to “theater”. So for example:
Instead of Invasion of Normandy, there will be Western Front 1944-1945,
Instead of Battle of Moscow, there will be Eastern Front 1941-1943,
Instead of Battle of Berlin, there will be Eastern Front 1943-1945,
Instead of Battle of Tunisia, there will be North African Theater.
Then, to make this whole thing valid, there should be multiple “Battles” (sets of maps) in one theater (so linked to the same progression). So let’s take the first one as an example:
Western Front 1944-1945 theater may include:
Invasion of Normandy,
Operation “Market Garden”,
Battle of Hürtgen Forest,
Battle of the Bulge,
(optional) Battle of Castle Itter.
It would work like this:
The progression would include all weapons, vehicle and equipment from the beginning of the campaign to the very end.
As you unlock more and more levels, you obviously unlock more and more powerful equipment. Some of this equipment would be ahistorical in earlier Battles. for example, the M26 Pershing and the M36 Jackson were used in Western Europe, but only after the Invasion of Normandy. So the solution would be something similar to a matchmaker, but not quite the same:
At the very beginning of the progression you would be able to only play in the first Battle, in this case, Invasion of Normandy.
As you unlock the first weapon or vehicle that wasn’t used in that first Battle, but only later, you unlock the second Battle as well. Then, when you unlock the first weapon or vehicle that wasn’t used in that second Battle, but only later, you unlock the third Battle, and so on, and so on…
If you equip a vehicle or a weapon that didn’t appear in combat during let’s say first two Battles, but only later, you won’t be able to play in those campaigns. For example, if you take the M36, which appeared after the Invasion of Normandy, as your vehicle squad, you would be able to play every Battle except of Invasion of Normandy.
Some weapons would be possible to be used in only one or two Battles. For example, the Sten SMG wasn’t used in the Battle of the Bulge and Battle of the Hürtgen Forest, because British soldiers didn’t take part in those battles. Those weapons would thus appear only in Battles in which they appeared in real life.
I think that this would allow Darkflow to put more content into the game, but without pissing the players off by making yet another identical progression for Germans, Soviets or Americans.
I like the idea, although about your proposal that while "more things you unlock, the maps that you can play will be something as bad as good, well in the sense that the most novice players would have their default map so to speak and would not enter A panther to split their heads, the bad thing is on the other side of the coin the more advanced players, that if they want to play maps like D-day, they won’t be able to do it because they have a tiger tank or a stg44 equipped in other things. which would be a nuisance for them to have to unequip those objects in order to play a certain map.
But the good point would be completely nullified in the future, since most likely a matchmaking system will be created so your last proposal of “the more things I unlock, I access other maps, but no longer others” would be obsolete It’s my point of view, I’m not trying to offend you or anything like that and if something isn’t fully understood it’s because I’m not English-speaking, thank you.
Seems like you didn’t understand what I meant. As I showed on the “Western Front 1944-1945” idea, this change would allow to fit more content into a single theater. So as the Western Front 1944-1945 theater would include all of the battles listed above instead of just Invasion of Normandy, the Eastern Front 1943-1945 theater would include for example:
Well, I want something like this partially because I really like historical accuracy. When I was watching for example BFV gameplay, there was something wrong for me with guns like the StG 44 on maps that were meant to show the 1940 France (not even mentioning North Africa or Pacific, that’s obviously a no go). So I made it specifically that way so that we won’t see Pershings and Jacksons (and hopefully Jumbos) in Normandy or VG 1-5 (or rather the MP 507 - that’s its correct name) in Leningrad or Kharkov.
Maybe a good idea would be to add some preset options, like in War Thunder, where you can save your lineups, here you also would be able to do it. And so you would be able to make a lineup preset for every battle.
the truth is that the theaters from 1943-1945 would be quite long, it may even be unnecessary, it is better to create annexations, for example, to the battle for moscow add the battle of stalingrad things like that
btv is more of an arcade game that does not focus so much on historical precision, but on showing an arcade game more than a lot, although enlisted also said that they would add things not precisely historical, but, in order to balance, for example, in invasion of normandy we might see the american / british tank destroyers that were specifically designed to destroy the tiger and king tiger tanks, things like that
That’s pretty much what I want to be implemented in the game. A new set of maps that could be unlocked and played on with some later weapons to be used specifically on those maps (and on historically later map sets).
i like it. Makes the unlocks make sense and experienced players cant stomp on novice guys. At least the pros have the perks to help them even without the fancy weapons.
Yeah this has been suggested a lot and this is the only logical way I see for the players to get Stalingrad, Kursk, Sevastopol or Konigsberg maps - you can’t have a new campaign each time for each city, really.
Good idea, I would rather have it this way than to have Stalingrad or Kursk on 2 separate campaigns. If this idea does go through then it would also give the Pacific Theater a chance to include a lot of battles. We would have New Guinea, Philippines, and Guadalcanal in one theater.
When it comes to late war Pacific, a good option would be to go with Philipinnes 1944-1945: Suggestion for Pacific Campaign: Philippines campaign 1944. Japanese would have a historically accurate AT rocket launcher, more then one SMG and possibly even some semi autos.
The other good option I think would be the Kokoda Track campaign. ANZAC forces, as well as Japanese, didn’t have any semi auto rifles, so it would be balance at least in that part. There would also be no tanks and heavy support weapons since terrain conditions prevented use of such equipment there.
To me “the Pacific theater” also means the Soviet invasion of Manchuria and Korea in 1945 - would be cool to have a ciuple maps where your Soviet side from Berlin 1945 clashes against Japan’s Kwantung army (though very hard to balance).
Please do not forget Maraya, Dutch East Indies, Burma, and above all China… Most of Japanese troops were sent to Chinese continent, not Pacific islands so sometimes it is called Asia-Pacific War.
If you want to see battle between Soviet vs Japan, I think “Battles of Khalkhin Gol” is better than 1945. Both forces have balanced infantry weapons, tanks and aircrafts.
Speaking of Dutch East Indies, Burma and so on. Correct me if I’m wrong, but weren’t the battles in continental Asia mostly fought against the Commonwealth forces? (so, from the gameplay perspective, no semi autos for allies either)?
In China there are lots of Chinese army and fought with Japanese during 1937-1945.
But yes, mostly Southeast Asian colonial army were consisted with Commonwealth: British army, British Indian army, Australian army etc. Additionally, Japanese also fought with Dutch colonial army (yup Dutch East Indies is not continent) and French colonial army. They had several unique weapons and armored cars so perhaps for some people those battles are interesting.
Ditch East Indies was attacked by Japanese army just after start of Pacific war. Also, after Vichy French was dismantled, French army attacked by Japanese occupation army at Indochina.
