Caliber vs.MM

All the American weapons should be measured in caliber, not millimeters. For example on the American bomber A-20G - 25 it lists it having six 12.7 mm machine guns. Those should be .50 caliber machine guns since it is the same measurement. Also since they ARE .50 caliber machine guns, there should be more BASS sound when you’re firing them. Anyone who’s ever fired one or was next to one while it was being fired would tell you the same thing. :smirk:

The topic name is a little confusing, but your point does seem valid.
Though it would be nice if we had both measurements since as a European Im not familiar with imperial.

I understand that Europeans are more familiar with the metric system as opposed to the Imperial system still used in the US, however if we’re wanting immersion and realism in this game then we should have the different measurements for the weapons.

well if you werent so imperialistic, you would use metric like normal world :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey, blame the British! They started it and then switched on us!

Honestly I don’t think it matters. It means the exact same thing.

But yeah, as someone who’s also fired an M2… the current sound effect is quite goofy.

Yep, they are the same thing, but they have different nomenclature.

Plus, we’re already using kilograms for German bombs and pounds for American bombs so let’s use the correct names for small arms too. :slightly_smiling_face:

Really don’t see the point of using imperial, take escape from tarkov for example, my immersion ain’t broken just because the .45 ACP is referred to as 11.43x23mm. (Side note, for some reason the only one where that isn’t the case is .366 TKM)

I do get your point about the sounds of the 50’s though, they sound like you’re throwing marbles at glass.

Well the British kit already uses their weird pound system for guns, so I don’t see why everyone else shouldn’t use their own measurements.

the term “30 cal” is confusion as hell, since there are multiple rounds that fit that description - while being vastly different bullets.

To be fair tho, simply saying “9mm” can also be misleading, VSS fires 9mm rounds.

Full name and dimensions of rounds is in no way a mistake.

It bothers me it bothers me it bothers me it bothers me it bothers me it bothers me

It always has and it always will bother me to see 12.7 instead of .50, 7.62 instead of 30-06, and whatever the frick they call .45 instead of .45. And the fricking SHOTGUN IS LISTED IN mm! WHAT MONSTER DOES THAT?!

It’s easy

The M2 Browning is in .50 BMG
M1 Garand, M1903 Springfield, and M1919A6 are all in 30-06 Springfield
All American SMG’s, except .30 cal Thompson, are in .45 ACP
M1 Carbine, M2 Carbine, and .30 cal Thompson are in .30 Carbine
Winchester 1912 should be 12 Gauge 00 Buck shells and I’m sure the Browning Auto 5 is the same

And this isn’t just “uh muh Imperial” either. These are the proper names of the calibers these guns are chambered in. If you were to look for the ammo to these guns, these are what you’d find. Not “12.7mm.” Not “7.62.” But .50 BMG and 30-06 Springfield

While I understand the motivation, I think that all factions should have things defined in the same units or it will be confusing for nearly everyone.

Maybe if it had both it would be reasonable… otherwise I’d leave it alone.

Well in the context of Enlisted, .30 cal can only mean one of two rounds and it’s pretty easy to know which is which

You have 30-06 Springfield and .30 Carbine
30-06 is a full power cartridge in the rifles and the M1919A6
.30 Carbine are in the M1 and M2 Carbines, as well as the .30 cal Thompson
Plus you can specify by 30-06 or .30 Carbine instead of just “.30 cal” to negate confusion. Only time I ever hear of .30 cal is in reference to machine guns chambered in it anyways

So…why are our bombs in pounds? Does that confuse you?

So do our 100lb, 500lb, and 1000lb bombs confuse nearly everyone else? Why do our bombs get to be correctly labeled but our small arms are all in mm? ESPECIALLY THE SHOTGUN. WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND CHAMBERS A SHOTGUN IN mm? Literally everyone and their mother uses gauges. I mean even the dang Red Coats use gauges and they’re notorious for making up their own measurement systems

Ok. Well, that’s my opinion. You have yours and… apparently feel strongly.

You do you.

(I’ll add that many people understand lb and kg. “Caliber” is not so clear)

At some point in the forum, there was a guy claiming that Tunisia Allies were unbalanced because they got a 1000 lb bomb while the german got a 500 kg. He had no idea that lb != kg and thought that the US had bombs twice as heavy.

imperial system is inferior. i roughly convert 2 pounds to 1kg even though i know that it isnt correct. ffs even british who invented it are moving away from it.
