Yeap, FG42 uses a full caliber round and more similar to guns like BAR. While m2 uses .30 cal which is an intermediate round, not a typical pistol round, so it’s not as much SMG as an early Assault Rifle. While FG42/BAR is an Automatic Rifle, or nowadays we call those Battle Rifle.
Forgot the point - FG42 on every soldier is akin to having BAR on every soldier.
