This has been a problem I’ve noticed and had for a long while now. Some may say M1 Carbine is fine, some may say it doesn’t need a buff, but let me present to you: S&W Light Rifle, Beretta 1918/30 (The gold order carbine, not the SMG!), and Pedersen Device Springfield.
You may ask, what’s the connection between those guns? Well I have one stat, the rate of fire! All of these weapons have 480rof, and are all semi-automatic carbines at BR1-2.
I should also mention that the M1 Carbine ALSO has lower than average rate of fire for a semi, which is NOT a good fit for a lower damage gun (Which by the way, M1 Carbine has a lower rate of fire than Armaguerra, a rifle with >10 damage, giving it a direct advantage)
I see no reason as to why M1 (And M1A1) Carbines shouldn’t get a rate of fire buff to be in line with the other carbines! (480)
Well Gold order weapon are made appealling by their uniqueness. Just look at MkB 42 (W) and M1E5 garand, they are not great Gold order weapon to pick. Not all gold order weapons have to be a Conders or a T20.
I also have Arty Luger, and yeah, in main slot it was dogshit, but as a sidearm, it’s probably the best pistol in the game. Only one with which you can manage a squadwipe if you’re lucky.
I bought both the S&W Light Rifle and the Beretta 1918/30 and I agree they are both far superior to the M1 Carbine. If I could, I would shit can all my M1’s for the S&W except I am locked at only being able to get 4, and the the Smith and Beretta both should be tech tree guns in my opinion. I love the Beretta as it shoots as fast as you can click the mouse and has low recoil. As far as hitting power, they are all about the same, so there is no great advantage there, but both are superior to what your offered in the tech tree. I also have the Armaguerra because that is the only level 2 semi auto German gun you can get in the tech tree, and it’s great for target practice but with small magazine your constantly reloading instead of shooting. Plus the M1 sounds like a weak and cheesy gun in the game.
Yeah, you’re not hitting long shots with this one (I mean, you can, but it either requires some skill or deliberately slow fire to allow target reacquisition), but will absolutely fuck up anyone who gets close enough for the toggle to not be a problem for aiming.
gold order guns should be appealing to “gun nerds” IE: “wow it’s a Berdan! a single shot blackpowder cartridge fed gun from the height of Tsarist Decadence!” much like GO vehicles consist mostly of variant skins fully kitted out.
the Cönders has kind of spoiled people’s expectations but I’m not sure what can be done with it at this point, since it seems essential for any Tier V German loadout and they’'ll scream bloody murder about the AVT, AVS and ppd, ppsh, fedorov automat, etc.
As for the M1 Carbine; the biggest problem I have is not the rate of fire but the combination of the following: {damage, magazine size, recoil, deviation} much like the M1 garand it feels like the recoil is very exaggerated and makes it hard to tell what is going on with the 15 rounds I do have; with little punch to the bullet there’s
Compared to the Armaguerra:
The M1 Carbine is less reliable when hitting a target, frankly the Armaguerra feels more like the Type Hei rifle, which basically just means a “Slightly weaker than the Tier 3 Semiauto”,
The Magazine capacity issues are similar, always feels like there’s just too few bullets when I’m panicking.
Compared to the VG1-5:
the VG1-5 has the disadvantage of being tier 3 and lacking the “granade thrower” attachment, (which I barely use because it takes too long to screw on.
the VG1-5 has the advantage of a slightly harder hitting cartridge that falls off less.
the VG1-5 has the advantage of a bigger magazine that makes rapid fire easier to handle without constantly feeling a need to reload after every “burst” of semiauto fire.
You could just switch to the M2 Carbine its full auto and for whatever reason almost every soldier is able to use it, why would you buff older weapons, i have 2 american rifle squads with 6/7 men having the M2 carbine bought them pre merge and damn its so awesome especially if you combine it with the large ammo pouch, but of course it doesnt beat the LAD or PPShpitalniy they are close combat monsters.
According to Wikipedia, this is the practical rate of fire of the M1 carbine * 60–70 aimed rounds/min (M1/A1).
Developers should start including both the theoretical and practical rate of fire of weapons in the statistics. This would solve a lot of problems for people who don’t know the difference between theoretical and practical rate of fire.
I got the silenced sniper Mosin (worst sniper in the game, crazy bullet drop and looow damage), the BerdanII and the axis counterpart. Sword pistol too ofc!
They’re not good, but I feel like a Chad using them. They have the power of ego boosting.
Oh, it’s funny to use for sure. When I must aim 1cm (in my scope) higher than my tiny target for the bullet to hit… and it’s too weak to even down. But it makes me giggle, and I laugh when I do get a kill
That’s a horrible thing to do for balancing, nor does it change the fact that the M1 Carbine performs worse than it should with zero reason as to why
Which makes it a gimmick gun, the M1E5 is still a direct downgrade to the M1 Garand in performance, but gets the gimmick of being able to go on tankers.
Because M1 Carbine is BR2 and M2 Carbine is BR5. Buffing older weapons is to balance things? Just because it’s a lower tier gun doesn’t mean it should stop being fixed for balance.
And Wikipedia also says Garand is around 50/min iirc, that’s not the point I’m getting at. The point is that for no reason the M1 Carbine shoots so slow compared to other things, and it’s just not as good as it should be.
