Browning M1918 - Proposed type change post-merge

As it stands currently, the post-merge US tech tree is missing the Browning M1918 in it’s original unmodified version. This is understandable as there are other MG’s that can take it’s place in the research tree while being closer to their intended role, however instead of being hidden completely, I think the Browning Automatic Rifle would make a good addition as a tier V weapon at the end of the rifle research line, available to all classes that can use bolt-action and semi-automatic rifles as well as the M2 carbine.
Reasoning:
-The US currently has no full-caliber automatic weapon available to it’s riflemen, the only choice being the M2 carbine which is closer to an assault rifle than a full-size automatic rifle.
-As such, there’s no US counterpart to the German FG-42 series, or the Soviet AVS-36 and AVT-40
-The AVT-40 was also intended as a squad light machine gun, and it counts as an automatic rifle in Enlisted, making it only fair that the M1918 is treated the same way.

I think german mains would cry too much, only they are allowed to have a 20 round LMG for everyone.

I love this suggestion.

I want them to remove the Mkb from Stalingrad Engineers. It’s an Assault Rifle

Engineers from Stalingrad can use every ARs, not just Mkbs. But things like federovs, stgs and so.

I would be cool with this. I mean it makes sense, the original BAR was meant to be used like a rifle, and the subsequent variants started leaning towards machine gun/SAW.

I think its fair and would be cool with this as it would be consistant (rules wise).

But I personnallly dont think Rifles squads should be able to use FG 42s, AVT 40s or M2s, Dunno how the AVT 40 didnt get restricted to engineers and “assault/engineer only” like the MKB (or at very least default single shot mode)…

M2 should probably go assault and they get BAR instead.

I dislike this.
I don’t see why every infantryman should have acces to LMG. It’s the role of MG gunner class. (This applies also to FG and germany)

With the current ruleset I would be Ok with it.

But in my eyes this weapons should get there own squad (wasnt there a guard squad in the Alpha? A small squad that could equip extra powerfull weapons?) I know that this will not happen, as the crying would be to much.

Another idea would be to limit them to an already implementet class. As an engi main I throw them in the room. So we only have 6 men squads with them and people using them might be building rallys and other stuff to help there team.

I dont know if I will encounter much of this endlevel stuff since I will mostley play low and mid br, since I like early mid war stuff the most. (man am I ready to toll out the czeck T38 again plus Lebel Squad)

The US should get the base T20 garand as FG counter

All bar’s categorised as lmg but they are actually automatic rifles as you mention.
Why did devs put them into lmg class ?
Their purpose is totally different from lmgs.
Main problem is why every hans or joe is able to equip godamn automatic rifle like its just christmas candy ?

M2 = fg counter
Deal with it

And yet there are people who want us to no longer have our M2’s…

I think this is a terrible idea. There are classes for automatic weapons and classes for other weapons. All automatic weapons should be limited to gunners and assaulters.

The fg42, AVT, avs and m2 carbine should be removed from most classes and limited to gunners and assaulters. The AVT and avs should also have much higher recoil since they are light rifles compared to lmgs like the BAR.

From a historical perspective giving every man in the game a bar is a joke. I know the game already has many inaccuracies but that shouldn’t be an excuse to throw more nonsense into the game and call it good.

Of course, I realize this, but so is giving every man an FG-42 or an AVT.
Historically accurate weapon compositions in Enlisted are long dead, if they haven’t been from the start(as far as I can see, the FG-42 spam has been in Normandy since the game launched with just 2 campaigns)

It’s going to be hard to remove that from people who want it, so I see a compromise in the fact that “high tier” will be filled with experiemental and low-issue-number weapons slugging it out, while the lower battle ratings will be more toned down in terms of gameplay.

Personally I played the game since 4 days after release and was happy enough with my squad of 9 Kar-98k’s or M1891 Mosin’s. I’ll likely play a lot of “low tier” post-merge too, just to re-live some of those experiences. I also think that things like the MkB-42 in Moscow were a mistake.
Despite this, I still like to run my endgame fully kitted out squads - the guns are often very interesting in their own way, besides being helpful in compensating for your team’s lack of performance…

That brings up a question.

Since the M1918 and T20 are pretty much the same thing (20rd automatic rifles firing Springfield rounds) do we want the weapon that actually was used as an auto rifle or a prototype that never saw combat?

In this case, I’d be fine with either.

Yes, because Allies still dont have their paper gun, other faction have whole armory of them

I still would prefer “plausible” setups as compared to “outright impossible” instead. In some freak incident a squad could maybe end up being armed with 6 BAR’s, but they definitely wouldn’t be carrying weapons that never left the continental US.
