Bring back PZ IV J wire mesh

yeah they said that, I haven’t seen it … or they’ve only done ones I already own

I do regret not buying that vehicle, its the only Panzer IV with a better turret protection.

That being said, I remember having made quite some arguments here on this forum about sideskirts being able to absorb HEAT because it makes the charge lose its ability to build up the molten copper jet (or what ever material they used) that gets focused into one specific direction to burn through armor - but for some reason quite a lot of folks here disagree with that statement.

Germans using this mesh type instead of plates at the end of the war is again proof that I am right, originally those plate side skirts were used to stop PTRS, which wasn’t really used at the end of the war that much, while Panzerfausts and other HEATs were very common.

The mesh would still stop heat, but not anti tank rifles

Complete nonsense. They definitely do not stop PFausts.

Not in the game, but in the real world.

That was their historical purpose.

Purpose? Maybe.

Did they work? No. Both German and Soviet wire meshes were pretty much useless.

its was just the general idea about the mesh armor, and don’t forget that there are weapons that use the HEAT principle, Piat and Bazooka for example, or just anti tank rifle grenades.

pretty tiny mesh on that picture…

The information for this picture says this:

German Panzer Mark IV medium tank with three half-inch holes through the armor from M1 Bazooka anti-tank rockets, near French-German border, 2 Jan 1945. Note the wire mesh panels for defense against magnetic mines.

Which I think is a far more realistic justification than protection against heats. Because that’s pure BS. I haven’t seen a single proof that ww2 wire meshes provided any protection against heats whatsoever.

Protection against heats is more what the Soviets thought those German wire meshes were for. So they started putting them on their tanks. But subsequent experiences has clearly confirmed that it has no effect at all against pfausts.

Btw. Tiny? Then look at bottom left corner. Just last ditch residual meshes at the end of the war.

if even today mesh can stop RPGs, as seen in many examples, why are you so persistent that it cant stop a bazooka?

Because I haven’t seen single proof they did so? :man_shrugging:

apparently you haven’t looked, this is not only used by the Russians recently as some sort of desperate measure, there are so many examples that this is pretty much still used by basically every military tank force in the world.

Quite bizarre. You’re presenting some BS opinion without any evidence to back it up.

But I’m the bad guy since I didn’t find that evidence myself xD

Idk, I really couldn’t care less. Believe what you want. It will not change anything.

dude, just google cage armor and check pictures. This stuff exists.

If this is your way of fact checking if those wire meshes during ww2 were in any effective against heats, okay. No comment. :man_shrugging:

The existence of something does not prove its effectiveness.
