Hi, I wanted to share some thoughts after playing the game again following the merge.
Battle Rating (BR): I equipped my squads with BR I weapons and gear, expecting it to have an impact. However, despite using only low-level equipment, I ended up in battles with BR II-V enemies. It seems like the BR system isn’t being enforced properly. I remember reading that lower BR should lead to more balanced matchmaking and different maps, but that doesn’t seem to be happening.
Lack of Map and Game Mode Selection: There’s no option to choose specific maps or game modes. I get that most US players want to play Normandy, and Japan might see less action, but it’s disappointing that there’s no map selection because of this imbalance.
Tank Camping: Tanks camping behind the “return to battlefield” line, especially in the Pacific campaign, is a major issue. Bazookas are ineffective against late-game tanks from the front, which makes it even worse.
Artillery Strikes: The way artillery strikes are handled is poorly designed. For example, at the start of an invasion map, the defending team often gets bombarded by a radio operator spamming strikes on the defense point. The first person to spam-click can rack up 300-900 points, while others are left waiting. This is frustrating and encourages poor gameplay. I’m stuck grinding the radio operator squad for T20 rifle upgrades, and it’s becoming unbearable.
Fast-Paced Gameplay: The game is so fast-paced that it’s hard to do anything productive for the team, like destroying enemy tanks or building structures with engineers. It feels like there’s no time to contribute in meaningful ways.
AI Issues: My AI squadmates are always getting wiped out, and I’m not sure how to manage them effectively. Right now, my strategy is to have mixed squads with similar setups and just use the one soldier I need.
I would like to add, that the gameplay is not what it used to be.
Nobody know’s what they are doing anymore.
the only thing that does consistently well in points is guys on their planes. nerf pls
or nerf planes destroying things engineers built. it feels so bad and alien, to have some 10k points plane guy destroy all your engineering constructions in one bomb run.
gameplay is at an all time low, where people just are running around not knowing what to do.
I miss the D-day normandy beach invasion gameplay, where both teams would know what to do - what works and what does not work.
Most off the games I play now aren’t even close to the enlisted experience I used to have before the merge.
The game as it is now, has become too complicated for the majority off the playerbase to become good at a certain map let alone at all off the maps being played. I just had a game where over half the team is flanking hangar ( basically all game my team was trying to get to hangar by running through open terrain or camping inbetween the 2 buildings where the constructed spawn was, having enemy spawnpoint left with tree’s and side off hanger at the fron’t with all the open space in the wall )because some guy setup a spawn point there, while the front off the hangar has 2 tiny doors and 90% off the terrain is out off enemy sight.
THE GAME HAS JUST BECOME BAD, too much different maps and no clear incentive how to play the game. most off my games are enemy planes getting top spot doing bombruns, enemy tanks getting second camping at their base. the game has become so bad for me that 9/10 games i just want it to end and play a new game. I used to be a consistent top 3 player on normandy USA mainly just playing the objectives playing some kind off assaulter playstyle, m2 carbine rushing.
The vast majority of my BOT squads are killed before I ever get to the control point. Hell, they somehow find ways to die in a bunker far from the control point with no one shooting at us.
I would agree with that on some level, but I think a lot of them know what to do, however ignore the game objectives just to run amuck chasing their own person goals. I couldn’t tell you how many times I am sitting in a control point trying to capture it only to look outside and see dozens of my supposed team mates running around not even trying to enter the control point just looking for someone to kill. Bottom line, you can’t capture a control point if you don’t go into the control point. Same when it comes to defending, far to many people are running around no where near the control point they are supposed to be defending. Meanwhile the enemy is infiltrating the control point with only me to defend it. This is far more evident when your in a plane and you can see where everyone is at on the map.
To me, the two biggest problems with the games being terribly uncompetitive are pitting players with inferior BR rated weapons into matches with players sporting superior BR rated weapons they have no business being in. The second, “PLAYER STUPIDITY!”
that was me mostly not being aware spawn points had no health not using sandbags, wich I avoided using because enemy can spot the point from across the map like so.
I’m glad to see that my thoughts on the game aren’t just personal, and that others share the same view. For me, being matched with high-level, end-game players despite having a lower battle rating was never a problem. In fact, starting out with BR1 weapons while facing fully geared squads was what hooked me on the game. Getting completely outplayed gave me a clear goal: to grind and improve. Plus, there’s something exciting about eventually getting to show off that ‘skill’ to the next wave of new players.
That said, the point about the game not feeling competitive is something I definitely agree with. The points system should reward more than just a +50% bonus for playing objectives, or at the very least, the objective area radius needs to be increased—especially when large structures are inaccessible, and players are dealing with constant artillery, plane bombs, and tank HE shell spam on the point. I get why people tend to play outside the objective area; often, there’s simply no one left holding the point.
Some maps were widely popular because they had clear objectives and balanced gameplay without feeling overly fast-paced. Normandy Beach on D-Day, for example, cough, was a favorite—people knew the map well and stuck to strategies that worked for them. I remember playing as the U.S. and being unable to push past the first point because a German player had dug two trenches to block our tanks. It genuinely made me happy to see such tactical gameplay, and I immediately wanted to adopt that strategy in future games.
However, many of the maps just aren’t as well designed. For example, you’ve got random sheds surrounded by cornfields, and somehow the AI still manages to shoot through everything when nobody should even be able to see you sneaking up. It honestly gives me borderline PTSD with how broken it feels. Plus, with so many maps now, it’s hard to develop creative strategies.
Even if they don’t want to implement full map selection, I would love the option to mark a few favorite or least favorite maps. Alternatively, being able to rate the gameplay at the end of a match would be a great addition. For example, if I rate a map I didn’t enjoy 1/5 stars and another 5/5 stars, the game could use that feedback to influence the maps I get in future matches. Ideally, there would also be a menu where you could adjust or reset your preferences at any time.
Not to mention on some maps if you do go into the control point your instantly vaporized by camping grey zone tanks or the constant non stop barrage of artillery. I played a game months ago, level 2 Russians vs Germans fighting amongst the burning log cabins. The control point was a house with no roof, and neither faction could take it because of the constant non stop spamming of artillery. It was a complete joke to put it mildly.
Some maps simply aren’t well-suited for the ‘capture the point’ style of gameplay. It might be better for the developers to explore a different mode where the central parts of the map form one large zone, divided into smaller areas controlled by each team. The game would only be lost when one team manages to capture and hold all the areas. This would encourage more dynamic strategies and make better use of maps that don’t work well with the traditional point-capture system.
Also this AI is not even AI, it is just bots or something. They can’t identify pathing through a window and prefer barbwire, they can’t get out off attics either.
