Boys ATR horrendous post-pen damage

Anyone else having trouble using the Boys rifle? It feels like it should be way more effective, I was shooting the back of the turret of the first italian armored car, and I was giving the guy a headache at most, it seems to be really weak in comparison to it’s Moscow counterparts(I dont have the PzB in Tunisia).

It’s also useless vs vehicles.

My honest 100% no BS opinion is that these Anti-Tank Rifles, while cool, are just not as effective as getting some Det Packs in on them in CQC. (I end up using Anti-Tank Rifles to Kill Enemies in Soft Cover)
The Spalling is so low on them , and damage so finite, that unless you are right on the money, chances are it isn’t doing anything.
I play primarily Axis in Tunisia / Moscow, and I can say the PzB suffers the same problem.
Gear a group with Sub Machine Guns , Semi Rifles, and go drop a Det pack on it.
Best way to clear a tank. Second best? AT Gun.

I don’t know what to say, in Moscow they are quite useful against anything but a T-50, have you tried them out recently? I one shotted two crew members with a PzB 39 against a T-26 from the side, and against BT-7s they can pen the turret frontally and kill the gunner.

Oh it can, absolutely. I one hit killed an A13 in Tunisia with one.
But from a ‘I need to kill this moving thing right now’ persepective, the Det pack wins out IMO.
Hell, twice now while streaming I’ve killed to tanks side by side with one pack lol.

Yes, but a detpack doesn’t do you much good when you can’t get close to the tank.

from my experince AT guns are also very inaccurate againt tanks(apparently its some network spaghetti code)
detpacks are just so much more reliable

Best bet is to grind to the PIAT/GRB. The PIAT pops tanks all day

the problem is that often tank stay quite in the back so you think:

But you also need a clean side aor back shot… so a lot of moving and crawling and hope nobody spot you and come to kill you.

then once you reach this good spot you need 2-3 shot in a fuel tank or ammo rack to blow the tank

It’s a bit sad but the 2006 game Red Orchestra offered a much more effective, realistic and immersive Anti Tank Rifle experience than this 15 years older game. Which is weird because the devs should have a really practical tank modules model already from War Thunder…

In my opinion the devs need to focus on fixing tank penetration ASAP. Not only from tank rifles but tanks alike.

I find tanks like to expose their weak points plenty.
And if they don’t, you can just shoot a track off.

One of the few problems I rarely have to deal with, unless they are grey zone camping. And even then with the exception of the Jumbo, I have other tools at my disposal to deal with those, and a Panther A to deal with the Jumbo.
Most of my Tank Hunting squads are geared to clear me a path to the target so my Det Packs and do their work. Since I started this game, Tank Hunting has been my thing.

Using boys rifle was very disappointing. I’ve loaded into practice and spend some time in it. The conclusion is that you have to be about 20 meters away to reliably pen Italian tanks on the side. Which means you could just get a grenade range perk and det pack them from the same distance.
I don’t think boys does any spalling, at least by looking at the damage camera. When it pens a side, you can see projectile just flying straight and hitting other side from inside, or passing tank complete (armored car, middle wheel). In practice mode I never managed to cook of ammunition and you can see that ammo now is in groups of 3-4 shells. It doesn’t detonate from a single hit and good luck hitting the same shells at distance while target is moving.
To set tank on fire, now you have to hit an engine instead of fuel tank. Fuel tanks just break. This was a news to me.
