Bot reaction and camping

today I faced my first match against or with teams full of bots (we were maybe 5 players in both sides) so I decided to test them in 2 points intelligence and combat reactions

  1. INTELIGGENCE
  • base infantry squad is classic cannon fodder fires from a distance does not dodge incoming shots and have good aim
  • attackers take cover behind buildings they fire from short range they enter buildings to clean them up but have bad aim
  • scouts prefer to camp in cp or bifurcations they are lethal against bots and have good long range aim but do not shoot in short range
  • the engineers like the basic infantry but do not build anything
  • tankers are the dumbest the tank rarely moves in combat and doesn’t care about the infantry they are blind
(for the remaining squads as far as or seen they are not used from ai)
  1. REACTIONS IN COMBAT
  • the ai prefers to camp in the cp both in attack and in defense making it useless in invasion or assault
  • the ai has a 3 second threat reaction time which is more than enough to wipe it out
  • in addition to the reaction time, it takes a few seconds to execute the orders received or does not execute them at all
  • if taken unawares it will stop and will not react by letting itself be eliminated
  • can use grenades but wastes them by throwing them into buildings to clear them of enemies even if they are empty
  • can open doors and windows but uses scripted paths so you just need to get in the right place to eliminate large groups
  • will never use any player-built weaponry or vehicles “except for the tank that she controls herself”
  • from what I have observed many times he will shoot at walls or empty areas (probably trying to hit the spawns and enemies behind the buildings)
  • in many cases even if the player is in combat or is building something he will refuse to offer support or as reported by some users he will ignore the player even if he is given orders or will destroy the structure built by the player
  1. CONCLUSIONS
ai requires draw attention from developers being one of the cornerstones of enlisted after a year of testing the work on it is unsatisfactory i am not a developer and not the skills to say if it is easy or not to make it up to par I can only say that there are independent developers who create AI superior to this on their own and in a short amount of time so I believe that a re-examination of priorities is necessary at darkflow

pretty much everything is correct.

i can " vouch" for this analys.

generally, AI needs alot of work. and i just hope they’re getting tweaked and improved. i’m sure it’s just matter of time. but yeah, reaction, places, path finding and sometimes behaviors, are not enough and in a need of attention to it.

as a " main " squad gamemode player, ( or i should say Ex player. because i rarely play it now days if i have to be honest due to major issues ). bots are really important for me, and for many others. as it’s one of the main core features and the one where the majority of us are here for.

and above all, i’m still waiting for PVE & Co-op Experience.
Yes, i’m aware that those are further down line, so we’ll might see them if we are lucky in a couple of years from now, but nontheless, i’m really looking foward for the AI.

just a side note,

as far as i know, tank bots do not exist.

not yet due to pathfinding and many others factors that should be taken in consideration. if you just notice, whenever you ask your bots to go somewhere, they are not capable to drive the tank.

and i might also suggest to tweak NPCs based on the weapons that they are using.

because, there are quite some differencies.

such as, mg are the deadlier bots more than AI snipers.

bots that has full auto smgs or any other automatic weapons, they are really bad. they shoot slow, and most of the time, just miss complealty their target.

bots/ais with semi auto are somewhat ok, but still needs to be taken in consideration as well as for the majority of the time they still miss shots. and they don’t have lots of ammo.

also, they should taken in consideration of improve the squad loadouts.
i’m talking about the " wanderer " squads made of bots, the ones we all know that walk in a straight line and always cluster the objective in one area despite the objective being massive like a hangar or a warehouse…

anyway, the majority of those bots have missmatching uniforms ( which we can somewhat understand ) but loadouts are still made of not-upgraded gear. so they run out of ammo quite quickly, keep using the same rifles and in my opinion, if they have to replace players or to the very least, be somewhat good of any use, they have to be somewhat good, not amazing, but a middle way. so that they can somewhat pull out a fight back, and " do theur job " somewhat better.

back then with the tank he was just a noob player he was worse than bots thanks for the corrections

yeah, i see alot of players struggling with tanks due to their low visibility. after all, they have time to improve as they might be new, or not familiar with war thunder.

the thing that surprised me most was to notice how effectively AI capable is like “assaulters who try to clean up a house but then get stuck against a wall” to do this AI was certainly instructed but I suppose they have limited it has excessive favor of players such as snipers that if you are far away they attack you if you get close they block and no longer react

eh… pretty much like any AI that watch his buddie dies in front of him, he just walks into the same direction instead of waiting or perhaps throw a grenades or even change route.

I have to say, I don’t want the bots to be killing machines, that should be what the player is there for. The bots are already frustrating enough when they shoot through visibility blocking terrain such as bushes/smoke/hedges, imagine if bots killed things more often, a lot of players would only get frustrated. If my bot gets a kill, it does little/nothing for me in terms of enjoyment, so I want to get them myself.

However, I don’t want the bots to just be transportable lives, I want them to fire back (just rarely hit), I want them to get into cover and preserve their own lives. I want them to occupy cover that I tell them to, and I don’t want them to run off on their own or disobey my orders because I ran a certain distance away from them.

A good quality of life change too would be the ability to give squad orders via the map, to position troops without needing line of sight on the area.
