I would suggest making the bomber planes be heavy bombers. It would give these famous planes representation
US: B-17
Theoretically in the Pacific the US Heavy Bomber could be the B-29 since it was exclusively used in the Pacific and is so iconic
UK: Avro-Lancaster
USSR: PE-8
Germany: He 177 Greif
Italy: P.108
Japan: G8N
Let’s face it, the airstrike call-in was only introduced to give fighter pilots at a time a half-decent way to grind their squads out under the pretense that they’re intercepting bombers (which they also get points for even if the bomber was shot down after they already dropped their bombs)
Instead of making airstrikes work by making them do their existing jobs a bit better, I’d rather that they offer a utility that can’t already be done with existing artillery strikes, like calling an AI recon plane to circle and automatically spot vehicles in a spot for a given period until it gets shot down or the radio squad dies.
The way airstrikes right now are basically exp pinatas with each individual bomber covering a misleadingly smaller area than the 5 circles that appear on the map. Removing the linked cooldown helps, but it still wouldn’t be as useful as someone with map knowledge dropping arty where needed.
Bombing runs should be buffed so they feel like a worthwhile ability. They should be something worth defending and attacking for both teams. They should be strong that they are justified as a call-in for their role that the enemy team should fear and actually want to shoot down as well as giving your teams pilots a reason for defending them because they are so valuable
I’ve already said it to you in a different thread of yours, but a guy clicking on the map shouldn’t be able to unilaterally affect the battlefield without any additional input.
The effort-to-reward ratio must be commensurate, and the best way to ensure results while keeping things fair is to make the player who intended to call the CAS runs perform it himself.
That person in the plane has to know where to dump ordnance and fly the entire time.
The entire time, that person isn’t on the ground attacking the objective on behalf of the team.
It is a commitment in terms of skill, effort and presence.
Clicking on shit with rockets is “easy” relative to other CAS options, but the entire time, the player is out there in the plane doing something and not just clicking on a map, free to do anything else they want as they wait for the strike to occur.
