Warning - hot take
When I heard bombing runs were coming to all campaigns I was very skeptical. I figured that this change would be bad for the game, and make it less fun to play. However, with the changes to the bombing runs, they are much easier to take down and reward a team for building adequate air defenses and playing as a fighter. The frequency of calling in the bombing runs may still be too frequent, but I am enjoying shooting the bombers a lot more than I thought I was going to.
The anti-aircraft guns now have much more purpose and I find myself building and using them more often. Anti-air half-tracks suddenly are much more able to fill their role of shooting down bombers. The overall increase in air activity is exciting to me, as I really want some half-tracks in this game and now anti-aircraft half-tracks in all campaigns would be usable for their purpose instead of just shooting infantry.
I booted up war thunder to get a look at some of the anti-aircraft half-tracks the devs could import directly. Tanks and planes are already taken from war thunder so it’s only logical that the half-tracks from warthunder would also be borrowed. I tried to grab half-tracks that don’t have too much open seating so they are actually usable in combat.
I know half-tracks are probably coming, but I figured I might as well post some of these anyway just in case. These are just a few I quickly found that could be added.
Germany
Flakpanzer 38 - Berlin
Flakpanzer 1 - Moscow
A concern with some of these half-tracks is that some of the early war AA half-tracks are weaker than the current static AA guns. I am not sure how to fix this. Maybe designate half-tracks as rider squads so they don’t waste a vehicle slot. I guess some of the weaker half-tracks just shouldn’t be added idk.
Sd.Kfz. 6/2 - Moscow
For example, this could be used instead of the flakpanzer 1.
AS-42 - Tunisia
This ““tank”” is also terrible, but it would be fun just like the rider squads already in this campaign.
Soviet Union
GAZ-MM (72-K) - Moscow
Zis-43 - Moscow - Stalingrad
This didn’t come into service until 1942, but could be included in moscow for balance reasons. But maybe there is alternatives I am unaware of so that historical inaccuracy can be avoided.
USA
M15 CGMC - Normandy
AEC AA - Tunisia
TLDR: I think the bombing runs are too frequent but a good addition to the game. I think they make anti-air guns, fighters, and half-tracks more viable. I really want half-tracks.
