Bombing Run Buff

Bombing Runs are honestly in a complicated place. They are very easy to shoot down, they have a long cooldown, and sometimes they barely effectively drop their bombs. They should be a worthwhile Radio call-in as well as something the enemy should actually fear and struggle to take down.

I propose overhauling Bombing runs to be Heavy Bomber planes. They would have a more powerful bomb load and better protection/ defenses. They wouldn’t feel like a waste for you to call-in, as well as the increased threat would mean the enemy has to focus on taking as many of them down as possible, and them being more defensively armed means they’re not a cake walk to shoot down so it makes gameplay more thrilling

Theoretically in the Pacific the US Heavy Bomber could be a B-29 since it was exclusively used in the Pacific, it’s a neat idea

As a side note I would suggest all the current medium bombers be added into the Research Tree as playable vehicles.

this post make me like :skull_and_crossbones:

but yea sure or they could unnerf it back to it original payload too if this is too much

honestly better payloads on the current planes would be fine, but yeah either which way, a buff would be nice, especially considering I’ve see a few more posts talking about separating the cooldowns for smoke, bombing runs and arty or something similar.

Anyhow a buff to the call ins would be nice, I think a wide area rocket arty barrage could be a cool call in as well, less concentrated fire but great for dealing with enemies in the open and forcing defenders to keep their heads down.

I think it would be better to have them be new Heavy bomber planes instead of just making the current bombers a little stronger. It’s a good excuse to represent heavy bomber planes because they likely would never be playable vehicles. Also the current bombers are just easy to shoot down in the first place so they should be stronger planes

dont get me wrong, the heavy bombers would be nice, but considering how much work has to be done on the game yet, I think just adding a bigger payload would be a nice start for now

This would be nice. I wouldn’t have to hate my teammates for calling them in anymore

Currently, they’re a complete waste of time. They take forever to arrive. A fart knocks them out of the sky. I swear they don’t shoot back anymore. If they do actually drop bombs, they only get one kill unless the other team is complete morons or bots. On top of that, they hold up artillery strikes that are actually effective.

On the other hand… I love it when the other team calls them in if I’m a fighter pilot or engineer. Easy 2k points haha.

Why?

yee
and bombs that explode the moment of impact.

MAKE ENLISTED HELL AGAIN :stuck_out_tongue:

Ain’t that the truth. Just like many things I hope perhaps one day…

Because bombers are part of the Attack plane family in this game. Light and medium bombers

That’s why I think bombing runs should be Heavy Bombers.

I dont think Medium bombers would be very good or useful as player controlled vehicles. They would be easy pickings for AAA and enemy fighters.

We already have medium bomber like the JU188 in game. It is regularly used by players and it is useful.

need bomber sights

I agree that air raids are weak but imo giving them strategic bombers is nonsense for 2 reasons:

  • strategic bombers aren’t used for close air support (though devs don’t give two fucks so I guess we can expect V2 rocket as radio call)

  • adding thrm won’t change anything. Current bombers are more than enough to flatten the whole map, just give them more/biger bombs. No need to change planes.

I guess you may argue it’s for diversity, to have more planes. But personally I’d like to add things that actually make sense instead of adding a destroyer with wheels for “diversity”.

Not really, the Ju188 is a highspeed bomber, like a mosquito, K-48 or A20. Not really a proper medium bomber it definitely falls into a grey area

Lol you are just inventing your own definition, it has nothing to do with speed, it is related to bombload and range.

I mean the western allies, and the soviets to a certain degree, absolutely used strategic bombers in a ground support role, see Caen and Monte Casino. The germans did as well slightly due to a weird target selection doctrine while invading Russia.

So I dont think it would be completely out of place for them to be in the game. However I do agree, just giving the planes we have a better payload would sort part of the issue at least for now. That and not having bombers hold up the teams ability to use artillery call ins.

Adding 200lb for Allies and 100kg for Axis would buff the blast area

It is partly for diversity as most likely heavy bombers would never be a playable vehicle, I don’t imagine we’ll ever give close-air-support as a strafing B-29. Since bombing runs are a mechanic it just makes sense to make them as this ability so they can be represented. It’s just like artillery, I don’t think they’ll ever make long range artillery an Engineer building

But also like I said the current planes are just so easy to shoot down that its better to make them stronger, more protected planes. That way they are a worthwhile call-in and the enemy can’t just easily wipe them out wasting it. Maybe you’re able to take down one or two. The call-in still fulfils its goal and you managed to take down a few

just give them historical bombloads, ie 9x500lbs for wellingtons, 8x250kg for He 111’s and etc for the other bomber models.
