The 500 lb boms of any side rarely do anything unless you happen to land it on the enemies head. There are no bombing cameras to improve your bombing skill. Bombs were MUCH more devastating in the actual war taking out walls and buildings and ultimately leveling cities. I might as well be spitting on the enemy from these planes. I’d probably do just as much damage. And one more thing. What’s with the terrible flight mechanics. In Battlefield the planes go where you point them and feel very responsive. In this game my plane is always chasing a pointer and feels very unresponsive. You really need to improve the power of the bombs and rockets to balance out the fact that runs take much longer to achieve.
While I agree even the 500kg bombs are quite lackluster and your better off with 4x50 to do some sort of carpet bombing covering larger area.
But they used to be pretty much what u described, killing ppl inside houses and technically emptying the map.
There was reason why they were nerfed.
The problem is they were nerfed too much and absorption of bomb blasts is just ridiculous, like i can stay within 50cm of 500kg’s detonation becouse there is 1 sandbag lying on the ground.
Also wreckages, trenches, buildings mitigates entire bomb damage.
Before it was nightmare, right now i’m dying maybe once per few games due to any air attack.
Exactly. Instead of nerfing the bombs, they could have balanced out the game by adding more planes in the air so pilots would be concentrating a lot of their time on fighting or defending themselves against other planes.
Idk…
Bombs feel fine like they are now. Used to be broken. The 500lb (or 250kg equivalent) are just perfect to hunt down tanks. The big a** 1000lb and 500kg don’t leave tanks any chances (unless the bomb glitch into the ground).
As for battlefield… it’s really not a reference for realistic flight
The game has realistic flying mechanics, a small light aircraft flying with incredible speeds in very high altitudes in any possible weather. Its just supposed to be a bumpy ride.
The real problem is that aircraft are controlled by mouse which isn’t very ideal and joystick was never designed for fine precision. Dispite mechanics being similiar, flying in IL-2 Sturmovik with flight controller feels completely different.
Bombs got nerfed a fair bit.
But 50kg is still more than enough to pop tanks.
500kg or 1000lb are guaranteed tank kills (unless you couldnt hit water if you fell out of a boat)
Just have to practice your dive bombing
Piece of Advice:
Pay attention to what angle your bombs are landing at, and if they land behind solid cover or not.
-
Bombing open fields that enemies are running across will yield your highest amount of kills as there is no cover to stop the fragmentation damage.
-
Landing the bombs more horizontally will yield a blast radius that covers more area, so when attacking infantry, come in on glide passes.
-
When dealing with Tanks, that’s where dive bombing comes in.
-
The higher you drop from, the more the bombs will spread from each other, so try dropping from medium altitude for wider spread.
-
My personal #1 tip… Set up your controls to be able to turn the engine(s) of the plane on and off. This is important because enemies will often take cover when they hear a plane coming in. Shutting off your engines fixes that, allowing for dead silent glide runs.
I recommend looking through your settings. I use completely custom settings and don’t have much issue.
yea i think this is my fault(which is probably true) but lately i hate the dauntless so much not because of bomb or anything it because of it taking off like if i dont drop the bomb the aircraft crash like literally every time idk what it is but i absolutely hate it but yea i can live with it.
it just extremely annoying
All the aircraft in Pacific feel weird honestly, that’s not just you.
Also, the 1,000 lb bomb on the dauntless has a weird bug that they have yet to fix it seems.
- Basically when it hits soft ground it calculates as if had detonated in its own crater, meaning most of the area around it is actually fairly safe.
- If it hits solid ground, like concrete or building, It does damage normally.
- This is unfortunate especially as the Dauntless is on Tunisia and Pacific, the 2 campaigns with the most soft ground to hit.
That’s what I’m thinking. Killed plenty of tanks with the 500lb’er, sometimes by accident not knowing they were in that spot, and as long as you know where to put the bombs and how to put them there you’re golden with any bomb
Yes those are very effective vs tanks, which can’t be said against infantry.
This is ridiculous in some situations where infantry seems resistant to those 1000lb and 500kg bombs, becouse of broken cover and bomb blast implementation.
I know it’s not realistic.
But it was necessary. For two reasons:
1- Maps and fighting areas are just too small. So are cap zones. Used to be that a couple 250kg or a 500kg could simply wipe the ENTIRE cap zone of everyone in it, because cover didnt work well.
2- No friendly fire (thank God). which means that, because of point 1… clearing the entire cap while leaving your own side free from harm was a tad much.
I just opt for slight difference in how cover behaves, especially against bigger bombs.
The best solution is to remove those overloaded planes and make even smaller bombs hurt behind weaker covers.
Solid concrete make sense… but woods, cars and bikes wreckages, barbwires, single sandbags, nullyfing trenches, it’s sometimes ridiculous.
It would be much batter if there was only the possiblity to build efficent cover and everything else was easly destroyable.
Makes sense for that reason but they REALLY need to eliminate the battle lines and open up the battle to a large sandbox. The battle lines are problematic for a number of reasons, one being that tanks like to camp outside the lines and there is NO way to flank them. They also restrict ground vehicle movement tremendously. My tanks have been destroyed a thousand times because they suddenly move the battle lines while I am repairing or stuck in an area with no easy exit and the timer runs out. That’s BS! They talk about realism. They say the flight dynamics are more realistic which causes planes to bounce around a be impossible to control but somehow imaginary battle lines that cause people to self destruct are REAL!
The amount of fragmentation absorbed by the ground or even invisible shit is insane
I’ve had Germans drop their 50-250kg on a prop like a trench like 5m from me and it goes off doing NOTHING
The other day I had a jap bomber drop a 60kg close enough to my head I could have meleed it but it was slightly uphill from me and it killed some guy way down the hill from me
Its spastic and I think the devs should take a look at props and varous hitboxes eating bombs entirely
Engine power/Perf Stats nerfed too hard compared to the other campaigns
Struggling to get over 200kph and stay in the air in the Pacific when you can reliably cruise much faster in Tunisia in the same plane is
Yes, and it is sometimes exaggerated to the point of pathological situations.
Like few 250kg bombs land on my head, i then crouch and entire damage was mitigated, usually only bots dies to bombs of any sort.
Yes and this ridiculous, only positive is that you have at least option to repair yourself .
yea the dauntless is really annoying to fly there if im lucky i can get off the carrier but if im not it gonna crash right into the ocean
