It,s important, to understand that the smoke provided by those tatical itens is very litle to actualy help, it is necessary 3 times more area smoke, remebering that in real life they take some time to spread the smoke, it will be very helpfull agaist supresion fire of tanks, LMG and other firing stuffs.
Mmmh… no. The smoke cloud realistically big enough already, when you give it time to spread…
It barely even covers a third of most roads.
Still realistic… when outside with the wind and all, we are lucky to have a rendered cloud that stays in place. After 5 seconds of the grenade spouting smoke, you already have a neat lil cloud working as intended: to mess with the enemy’s aim. Sure they can still see that someone is moving through it, but unless they spray a full drum mag inside the cloud, there’s good chances they will miss. I myself use them as a diversion I throw mine in road “A”, so the enemy briefly focus it’s attention there, but go road “B”. Keep in mind most players you will see are… FAR from being geniuses…
I kitted my assault squad with smokes. The first 3 dudes in the squads have 3 smoke grenades each and the increase range of grenade throwing. That is a total of 9 grenades that go out. If I use that squad to assault a point the approach is covered. There is still some small gaps in the smokes but not a lot. I think that is fine as it is. Feels quite realistic, hopping from smoke stack to smoke stack to the point.
If you would increase the smoke output it would mean there will be no gaps at all and no one can see trough it. It would make assaulting way to easy.
I didn’t even think about simply throwing MORE grenades… definitely something I will test.
I wanted to find a use for the other grenades next to the tnt. When I kitted the assaulters with smokes I instantly fell in love with it. If the point is extremely hard fought and you have a few guys trying to reach it but they get mowed down, I switch to the assaulters and it gives the whole team a huge edge to cover some decent ground.
The smoke grenade size is accurate to those of the period, though not the color choice for most factions.
Now, if you wanted a larger smoke cloud, there’s white phosphorous grenades, but… well, devs haven’t added such.
… though a 17 meter radius of fire and smoke would be fun.
The topic of smoke grenades is a good one because it shows the historical accuracy of how they operated realistically but they conflict with today’s smoke grenades which are more advanced and do indeed expand faster. With that being said I do agree however that it needs at least a slight increase expansion time solely to due to how fast paced you have to play the games objectives if you want to win.
I mean, again, if you want more smoke, white phosporous grenades would do the trick and retain historical accuracy. They might need to be higher level grenades for balance, but, still.
If you use the increased throw range for grenades you can throw them further, which gives the grenade more time to expand.
can’t wait for my m9 bazooka with white phosphorus
I doing the same, but instead of assaulters i giving 2 smoke granades to my engeniers.
