I will post images around Wilhelm Strasse when I feel like it. All I do is determine the appropriate building from its location on the map. I might get bored or give up in the process.
looks fairly close.
me I want in proper area the flacktower on the garden, even if its oblh a decoration empty
Be prepared for disappointment, my friend. Stalingrad has opened my eyes.
for people like me who didnt do extensive research, why the disappointment.
The developers made the city blocks bare and empty when, in reality, they were highly cluttered. They tried to compensate by scaling down the blocks, but the bareness remained. They also left out essential buildings such as the train station warehouses, the “X” building, and other stores/apartments on Gogol Street. I have presented examples of the neglect below, as well as the source reconnaissance photo itself:
Left of Central Train Station
Left of Gogol Street
Right of Gogol Street

The arrow on the map indicating where the photo was taken is in the wrong position.

I do not understand the developer’s intent regarding the shape and placement of some of the buildings.
They only care about squeezing it all into one map and then putting ingame borders to separate areas to make them appear as if there are more maps. It’s honestly a shame.
I thought so too in the Normandy campaign. I think the maps there are where the developer’s habits are most blatantly apparent. And I don’t see any future of them being remade at all.
not quite, it was more of a thing to do to create various different missions*.
which they often do.
i mean, sure. some of them aren’t that historical 101 recreations. but that’s fine and i can understand for the sake of game play balance and decisions.
what’s more of a shame of stalingrad to this day ( and kinda the reason why i bought it in the first place )
it’s the lack of actual maps.
beside “stalingrad” few areas of the north, as well as the tractor factory,
we don’t have anything of iconic such as mamayev kurgan, the stalingrad airfield, the gurmark station, the grain elevator ( even though, i can sort of understand not being ideal for tanks towards the hypothetical obectives located inside the grain elevator it self ) pavlov house, the chemistry factory ( even though they never really assaulted it. but the same could be said for the cannons over swamp of river in normandy. ) commisar house, and on and on. nor even include locations in / around the steppes of stalingrad.
my biggest let down.
It doesn’t have to be 1:1, but it should look very similar to the actual battlefield, not some half-made slop. The reconnaissance photos shouldn’t be mogging Central Stalingrad into oblivion as they are. But if the reason for this is gameplay balance, I, for one, believe it would be more favorable to have more cover in in the form of more buildings and rubble. There are wonderful real world examples they can use that I have made available on the forum. I hope that one day Central Stalingrad will have the fullness that everyone was looking forward to before it’s release.
It stings all the more when you have played Red Orchestra 2 as well. Maybe they will add more maps to Stalingrad some day.
