I’ve noticed a relatively minor historical error with the bayonets in the Moscow campaign for the Soviets.
Currently, the M1938 Carbine can equip the m91/30 bayonet, when it was specifically designed not to do so or mount any bayonet at all. I've owned several of these IRL, can confirm, the bayonet doesn't fit.
- Model 1938 Carbine: A carbine based on the M1891/30 design that was produced from 1939 to 1945 at the Izhevsk arsenal and in 1940 and 1944 at Tula. They were intended for use by second-echelon and noncombatant troops. Very few M38 carbines were made in 1945 and are highly sought after by collectors. Essentially a M1891/30 with a shortened barrel and shortened stock (the M38 is 1000 millimeters (40 in) in overall length versus 1230 millimeters (48 in) overall length for the Model 91/30), this carbine did not accept a bayonet and was in fact designed so that the standard Model 91/30 bayonet would not fit it. However many M38 carbines were fitted into M44 stocks by the Soviets as a wartime expedient. M38s in the correct M38 stock command a premium over M38s in M44 pattern stocks. The M38 was replaced by the M44 carbine in 1944.[3]
The Russian contract Winchester 1895 was specifically required to accept a bayonet, though all information I can find says it was a proprietary one, or perhaps compatible with a different sword-style bayonet from either the American or Russian arsenals, but it hasn't recieved a bayonet in game.
Between 1915 and 1917 approximately 294,000 M1895’s were manufactured for the airforce and police units of the Russian Empire, accounting for about 70% of total production of the rifles prior to 1932 when the M1895 was discontinued. Chambered in 7.62×54mmR, these versions were unusual for a lever-action rifle in that they also had a charger guide, allowing the M1895 rifle to be reloaded by the same charger clips used in the Mosin–Nagant bolt-action rifle.[4] Rifles made for the Russian contract had a longer than standard barrel fitted with an extended forestock and bayonet lug.[5]
One gun has a bayonet when it historically and realistically can’t, the other has no bayonet even though it was historically required to and the bayonet lug is even on the in game model. What gives?
