The Battle of Imphal & Battle of Kohima took place from March to July 1944 in the region around Imphal, the capital of Manipur and Kohima, Naga Hills District, Assam Province, British India (now Kohima is capital of Nagaland, India) in Northeast India. It was part of the Burma Campaign during World War II. Japanese forces attempted to destroy the Allied forces at Imphal and invade India but were driven back into Burma with heavy losses. This battle, along with the simultaneous Battle of Kohima, marked a turning point in the Burma Campaign.
