Many people build barbed wire in very bad places, for example they block all the entrances to the point with barbed wire(and they make it very difficult for teammates to enter.), or some even build barbed wire next to the relay point itself! Sometimes the game becomes very annoyng, how do you think this mechanism can be improved and what punishment should be considered for these people?
The only thing I can think of is to forbid building barbed wire indoors. But then they will use sandbags instead.
About the penalty, I think at first add a notification “don’t damage friendlies” when somebody goes into their wire. I’d add a score penalty but I can already see some grifters abusing it.
yes it’s good idea, you can’t build them on the point and 5m from friendly rally point.
If they’re doing it as a means of helping the team, they need education—not punishment. For example, putting barbed wire up to block an entrance on the enemy side of the building makes sense. Placing it on the side of the building where your team enters the building does not. This is also where AP mines come in handy.
However, if they’re doing it to troll other team members (or trying to help the other team), then yes, some form of punishment should be emplaced. But how do you determine that?
Unfortunately, “on the point” is where barbed wire is needed. So it shouldn’t be banned from being on the point. 5m from a friendly spawn point would suffice in preventing this issue.
I am against building them in general, I do not believe in defending the point, the team should create a safe 20-30 meter margin and fight the enemy away from the point, the houses near the point are very important, if they fall, the point has fallen.
Well, the problem of blocking doors still remains, I’ve seen few people build them, but those who do generally block everything.
Yes, your suggestion is a good one; however, very few people do the proper things to keep the enemy out of the cap point. Furthermore, you still need people on the point no matter what. The enemy will slip through sooner or later; therefore, you need people on the point to defend it and to keep the enemy from unwinding it. So, barbed wire is helpful if used properly. It’s the people who aren’t using it properly who are creating the problem.
In my opinion, you shouldn’t ban the use of something from everybody simply because a small percentage of people are misusing it. Again, education is key. Maybe type a message in game when somebody’s doing it and suggest the proper way to use it.
its about how dumb or trol some people they can be, I build wires in the point but making sure its nit in our entrance
Dunno if punishment can work if the AI always tries its best to run into the wire anways
People are just retarded I find, its not malicious, just genuinely have no clue how to play.
Like the amount of times my team has lost a point because some genius focused all his defences on defending from our rally point spawns is insane. Like at best it should be rare, but no, really common.
There really really needs to be a more in-depth tutorial for these things, again I think a scripted mission format is the way to go, much like the old tutorials of saw WaW.
You could start as a russian conscript, shooting empty tins for target practice, something happens, you run through a quick bit of gameplay, you learn to cook grenades so the enemy AI doesnt throw it back, you learn about squad management, you learn how to finish off enemies on the ground, etc etc.
You take a position, then you get asked to move onto hte next tutorial, the engineer tutorial, where you now are an engineer squad who has to dig in, give the player say 1-2mins to dig in the position, use some ghosted props to indicate good strategies for building defences, like barbed wire outside windows, AA gun with a clear line of sight to the skies, AT gun with a good view down a main road, and teach them the importance of keeping your avenue of reinforcement clear. Also a good time to throw in how to make rallies.
From there you have the final defence, tanks down the MSR, otherwise a fair frontal infantry assault, ideally you want to balance it so the player has to respawn in a new squad so they can learn about spawning on the rally and in turn learning how awkward it is to reinforce a point if you build defences in the way.
the only issue with that is, you have no where near enough defence build cap on your own to deal with that, and you dont even have a tenth of the time needed to build a defensive line in that area.
Thats why people focus on the point itself, because otherwise your right, the positions around a point are equally important to the point.
This idea is very interesting, but they are too lazy to implement it.
Thats the thing that annoys me, its not even that hard to make a scripted mission, just use a corner of the Stalingrad mapset, or Rezev even.
I believe that no entrance should be blocked. Today I was playing one of the Moscow maps. Someone had blocked all the entrances and I couldn’t counterattack.
If you’re a machine gunner, sitting in the point is a good idea, but if you have a class like assaulter, you need to counterattack while defending.
oh no you need to block entrances, to stop exactly that, enemy assaulters charging in and overrunning you.
Friendly assaults should be side flanking, hunting rallies and causing chaos on the sides, generally distracting the enemy away from the main point.
They never bother me when I’m attacking, I stand by and destroy them and charge in, but when I’m defending they’re always annoying.
Unless they are on the wrong side of the building, they shouldnt annoy you, as for attacking, what fool lets the enemy dismantle defences unopposed, grenades exist for a reason, frags in particular.
So my strategy is to prevent the enemy from entering the point with successive attacks, sometimes I camp on the right or left side of the entrance with an MG.
yeah all the more reason to lay barbed wire at the entrance to bait them into the MG. Or at least to stop them just grenading your MG.
