Automatic as the default mod

Can we finally do something about the default firemods of some weapon that has been forgotten?

For exemple:
FG42:
By default in semi-auto and not in auto.

G43 Kurz:
By default in semi-auto and not in burst.

I believe it’s a relic of the development when those two weapons were considered the best in the game. The devs choose to nerfed it:

  • they reduced the ammo you can carry.
  • they set default mod in semi-auto.

But today with weapons like the American T20 or the Japanese Auto Type Hei, there is no reason to keep those weapon nerfed.

I would argue that we should also unerf the StG44, and put back the original faster fire rate. But that’s a different topic.

Please, put the burst if not the auto as the default fire mod of all weapons that can do so.

Nah it’s fine as is

It does suck for Germans tho who I think are the only faction without a rifle that starts on Auto

Which means their AI will only ever fire with it on Semi-Auto

And this is coming from a guy who only plays US and USSR

No SF rifle should have auto start.
Included those already have.

there should be an option for that.

like if people wants to start in full auto, or semi.
and each time it saves for the next session

similar to allowing other people in your tanks, or not.

Indeed. I’ve maxout every faction and I can tell you it’s very frustrating to manually change the fire mod of every soldier on your squad equiped with FG42 II, FG42 and G43 Kurz.

The only other non german weapon with similar issue I’m aware of is the AVS 36.

But AVT-40 is better imo and don’t have the issue.

its good that people keep posting this, as apparently some gopnik a DF thinks its better to annoy the player base with the semi auto as default mode and DF itself stated they dont listen to the quality of comments, but only quantity. so the more fg42 posts are spammed the better.

multiple people told me that the russian enlisted forum is full of biased drunk soviet fanboys who instantly complain about anything that makes the german army stronger and DF seems to listen to that noise. this would explain this obv nonsense & no 100 round MG for germans but TWO for soviets

RPD should be removed and memory-holed

no way I love the RPD, it’s essentially a 100rd assault rifle but with better damage, rate of fire and recoil

Thats exactly why I hate it. It wouldve been a cool event/GO weapon. But its basically fantasy and unnecessary because we now have maxim tokarev

The Tokarev is great at distance, but If I need to get up close, it just doesnt have the rate of fire I need

Yeah it doesnt one shot like the Tokarev does, but with the mag cap I can just spray it

The RD on the other hand shoots faster than most SMGs and every assault rifle (I think?)

If anything the RD is too OP, IMO it’s the best gun in the game

Really need to eventually get a game setting for it:

Preferred Default Rifle Fire Mode: Auto/Burst or Semi Auto
Preferred Default Machine Gun Fire Mode: Auto, Slow Fire, or Semi Auto

Its completely broken, specifically because it uses assault rifle ammo - which deals less damage than real MGs - however real MGs already dont kill in one shot, so this negative effect has ONLY benefits, as in no dispersion on the move and non existing recoil.

That RPD performs just how MGs performed before the dispersion nerfs - as a high capacity assault rifle, which shows the hypocrisy of the devs, because that was the reason to add MG movement penalties to begin with.
