Assault Engineer III: A Solution to the Stalingrad Engineer Nostalgia

Hope you enjoy my MS paint photo editing skills.

Note the stat distribution and starter perk I decided on in this edit! 25% building speed may perhaps be too much but its only 3 points in perks. At level 5, an Assault Engineer III would have a 19/20/18 point distribution which should be quite potent. While a recoil perk could be thematically nice for an Assault Engineer, I think the +2 weapon handling can let players effectively do that anyway.

Making Assault Engineer III rather than Engineer III would help the players that miss that option from Stalingrad. I never bought Stalingrad myself but if all it does is enable ARs on Engineers it should be fine. I don’t think locking this ability behind an exclusive event would be very interesting anyway.

Only concern might be what new AR to give these guys? Especially to US and Japan which seem to have none.

We are supposed to get an event at some point (maybe with the next big update, maybe not) that would provide each faction with an engineer squad with assault rifle. I don’t think we would ever get something like that in the tech tree however.

They will not add them to the tech tree, as then we would just be back at the state we were on the test server where every squad was running assault engineers as extra assaulters.
I still expect we will see them as event squads for each side. A single squad would be ok, allowing ARs on every engineer is beyong broken.

So what’s stopping players from taking assault engineer IIIs to lower tiers and making full-SMG squads?

BR restrictions presently only affect primary and secondary weapons, swords and vehicles.

Yeah, you know even though the select-fire rifles are good guns, I’d probably always go for the ARs. This would make the weapon choice for you and without the downside of choosing a fitting squad. Guess this would be a blunder.

Well how about the stat distribution and starter perk? Still kind of powercreeps lower engineers but every class does that already and the benefits are only incremental.

That’s true, looking forward to it. I think the way they phrased it was that their weapon could be switchable with techtree ARs so I imagine it’ll be like the soviet paratroopers that came with 6 Federovs.
