Armored cars and light tanks were used extensively in the early phases of ww2. They represent a large number of interesting vehicles for all factions, that have not yet been explored in the game.
It is reasonable that armored cars don’t have much presence in the game currently. Many of the vehicles I am suggesting only are armed with machine guns and are thus useless in fighting tanks. Even at BR 1 they would be outmatched by every other available vehicle.
Here are some ideas to have for gameplay justifications to include these vehicles:
These vehicles could be designated as rider squads (example rider 2, 3, 4). Rider squads can have engineers and anti-tank soldiers, meaning these vehicles would essentially be an alternative to APCs.
These vehicles would be given one or more additional features to increase functionality:
Ammo Supplier: Accompanying Infantry can use these vehicles as mobile ammo boxes.
Towing Feature: These vehicles could tow in support weapons that are not buildable by engineers, such as anti-air or anti-tank guns. They could also tow in resupply crates that could function similarly to paratrooper boxes, allowing accompanying infantry more flexibility.
These vehicles may be allowed to assist infantry in capturing zones, while being unable to capture zones themselves. (Boosting zone capture speed while on the point). (Useless on some maps)
(more radical implementation) A new BR could be added and all current tanks would be shifted up 1 BR, with lightly armed tanks and armored cars forming a new BR 1 (Separating matchmaking into 1-3, 4-6).
Examples of armored cars and light tanks used in ww2:
I never thought that halftracks would be added to the game and their inclusion was well done. I hope we can continue to add to the vehicle variety in the game.
Bullcrap. We don’t have the M3 Halftrack. Arguably one of the most numerous and used halftracks in all of, well history really considering some nations used them afterward
While riders benefit from mobility and a MG, I think there should be at least some form of additional functionality to make separate riders from APCs. APCs benefit from mobility, an mg or larger(sometimes), and work as a rally point. To make riders worth taking I think they need at least some special mechanic to them that differentiates them.
I like the idea of riders being able to help capture points while in their vehicles, it makes them more of an alternative to paratroopers. It also makes them an option for a more aggressive playstyle than with an APC. Both riders and paratroopers fitting the gameplay role of quickly getting to more distant strategic areas to build rally points but also can be used for more aggressive pushes on capture areas.
i really really want more support vehicles and stuff like light/scout tanks but they need some serious thought because it would mean even less infantry on the ground trying to capture or hold the point.
