When trying out the 120mm short gun for japan in war thunder I noticed that there it can easyly deal with the majority of the shermans easiely by just targeting where the turret meets the hull. You can just cave in the roof of them that rarely has more than 20mm or armor which is easiely overcome by the 31mm of HE pen by the shell.
But in enlisted you will be hunting for that one pixel where it actually can destroy the sherman by hitting their roof.
While in WT you dont even need to aim that hard to hit something to still kill the tank by the blast.
Is enlisted HE just bugged and loses all penetration depending on the angle ( even thou the blast should be a sphere and able to ignore that) or does the blast just not travel throu the air as it should?
It gets even worse with the M3 grant as it has the huge turret ring to detonate your HE and ONLY13mm of roof armor that should cave in instantly but it just doesnt.
Yea tried it with a couple of tank using both HE and AP and it never seem to work for some reason it keep showing the weird square (which I assume it glass) and that it.
Unless I shot directly at the roof of course (which is almost impossible unless you are above the enemy for some reason)
I’ve encountered this with explosive packs too and in the worst cases even with TNT charges. From what I’ve read from other users and what I’ve seen, it’s that the explosion damage in Enlisted expands to the sides and up, or at least the downward force is much weaker. That’s why explosive pack packages underneath a tank are so powerful. It never fails to destroy a tank. Same why anti tank mines in this game are so deadly. So yes, it’s very inconsistent, but it has gotten better, definitely needs some working on. The next tanks down in the tech three offer a much better anti tank capability. The Naval Gun tank is very inconsistent in that regard and works best as a anti infantry siege-self propelled gun.
I’m looking up for what the next tanks Japan have to offer with the following update.
From my experience, it’s always more effective to aim for the spot where ammunition suppose to be. It doesn’t matter that you are not going to penetrate the armor, but the overpressure is gonna detonate the ammunition and thus destroying the tank.
(You obviously need to have strong enough HE).
According to cat’s big brain data sheet. Japanese 120mm short gun has 31mm pene.
So anything with more armor than that should only be destroyable by overpreasure mechanics.
But who knows, if it’s actual mechanics or just another bug.
Yes and no
If you hit it in the middle of the armor plate then yes but the beauty of high caliber HE is that in theorie it can punch through all the thinner weakspots (like roof armor or an overhang floor) nearby without angles scewing you over.
HE used to pen turrets and hull roofs. I don’t remember when it was changed, i think it was when they added the pacific campaign? or the spades? i am not 100% sure but 75mm Shermans could one shoot Pz III by firing HE at the cupola and Pz IV on the turret cheeks. I think what they did is that they removed the penetration from the fragments.
