APC drive-by

Who else has been charging with their APC during matches? I’m having a blast lately, and I see I’m not the only one. As I see it each time more often than before every since this last update. I’m seeing players going bonkers and goofing around, in a good way, with their APCs doing drive-by’s. Specially seeing armored APCs in their role of actually supporting the infantry, (those AI gunners are no joke). But even the regular trucks driving at full speed can cause havoc too.

I was trying to find a gif from this scene in Full Metal Jacket, when they begin the tet offensive by driving a truck at full speed into their HQ and it’s immediately received by machinegun fire. That’s really how it feels driving an APC in Enlisted for me.

Me after driving into that shitty hangar in Gavutu at full speed to clear out the point
It was worth it.

So for whoever else is doing APC shenanigans I salute you.

I’ve done shit like that before, but usually I get blasted by an explosion pack seconds after going into the hanger. :joy:

Some battles ago, playing Japan BR 5, we got totally destroyed.
The last point was being captured by the enemy and there was absolutely nobody from my team close to the point.
So in a last effort, I spawned my APC and went full speed towards the point, hoping to reach it in time to stop the enemy from capping.
I flew over rocks, almost turning over, I dropped off a small cliff but kept going full speed to the point!
But as this was a proper steamroll, I could not even reach our point…
When I was almost there, a flamethrower set my APC and some soldiers on fire.
I just kept driving, only to get nailed by an offenrohr just a few meters further.
That killed a few soldiers but somehow me and my APC were still going but a second later the flamethrower finished me and the APC off.
All this happened in just a few seconds and was great fun.
A classic ending to a steamroll.

I feel like more players should goof off in general. After all, it is just a casual game. But it’s a shame it’s not really viable for the majority of us, as the game has become too sweaty now to have fun.

Honestly, I feel like that how online competition games like these slowly die, sweat lords running around the place. And perhaps the worst BR with the most sweat lords (in my opinion) is BR 5

Nah I believe it’s actually BR III. Being stuck in it for the better part of 6 months, that’s where most veterans go to grind out events because it’s easier. Plus, the equipment is in such an odd spot for all factions, and we can get lumped in with noobs from BR II or BR IV matches.

The BR II matches are worse because nobody knows what to do, and I’m generally the only BR III / experienced player on the godforsaken team (rip rallies).

Honestly if the engineer squad was given instead of the sniper squad then more people would build rallies

I feel like engineers should be available from the get go. And it should be emphasized in the tutorial placing down rallies, hunting enemy rallies, and always pushing towards the objective.

I’ve driven my APC into the big hole cave in Battle of Tunisia, Kahif cave village where every dude survived one day when we couldn’t even sniff the objective. I got the ball rolling dropping into the big hole, and we got about 75% of the cap point taken before all my dudes and the others who rushed in died. However, I have seen others do the same on the same map, and that turns out to be a good strategy, especially if most of the defenders are on top plugging people trying to get into the cave, and once you’ve crashed to the bottom and get out, you have time to get to one of the rooms at the bottom and try and defend. However, it usually is all for not at that point as there was a reason your side couldn’t sniff the cap point. Either shitty team mates or your playing a stacked group.

I wish AI in general were more deadly - its weird to me that they perform better once inside an APC

Oh its hilarious to do, I swear the AI in the back of my truck/halftrack are more accurate while in it too. But it just makes me really wish for a proper mechanised squad, without the APC ability, so I could justify to bum rushing points in one.

These guys are usually very annoying, demanding more punishment and opposing more rewards. It’s hard to imagine that when you suggest some new rewards, there will always be a group of players who come out first to obstruct.

Thsi was NOT their role at all. They were battle taxis only - you might use them in an assault against a very weak position, and hte ones with guns on board (eg 251/10) would provide a bit more firepower for that - but that was all.

There were never enough to risk using them like IFV’s

That’s hilarious, man. The Isuzu truck going at full speed is no joke. I think it goes even faster after the last update. There’s this objective in Gavutu map where there’s a large piece of land in the middle (where there’s lots of barracks, the road on the right that takes you to the the airfield). A few days ago I drove full speed from the south spawn point to the opposite north end of that island. It was Confrontation mode so all the enemies were rushing in a straight line down the road and across the bridge. I got like 10+ kills just by running them over and also a few extra kills that my bots managed. I then “crashed” my APC next to a dude’s Studebaker and proceeded to destroy it. Despite my whole squad being wiped out, It’s safe to say it was a nice trade off and it fulfilled it’s purpose of breaking havoc in the enemy lines. Wish I recorded it.

That’s a great strategy. It’s risky but it’s the best you can do in that situation. I always like using APCs as my opening move at the beginning of a match or finding a random drivable truck as my go-to way of assaulting a point from now on. Specially those pesky capture points that are such a chore. It certainly does get the ball rolling and even if the vehicle is destroyed it serves as an additional barrier against enemy fire for the advancing troops.

Bro, I swear. I have this single guy in my APC that carries a bolt action Manlincher in BR V, while the rest is carrying LMGs, Smg and semi-autos. I don’t know how he does it, but that f*cker always gets the first kill when I drive by past enemies. It’s like an enemy detector alarm whenever I hear him firing away. don’t even want to change his weapon even in BR V as I’m afraid he would loose his sharpshooter mojo.

And yeah, it’s about time we get a full rework of the rider class for some more mechanized madness.

That’s very true, Joseph. In WW2 APCs were actually quite a commodity, specially for Germany, and high command couldn’t afford the risk of losing them. Which were already very easy targets by most accounts. There was this sort of field manual from the Wehrmacht that I read a while ago in an old WW2 forum, I don’t know if that’s the correct term, sorry. But apparently High Command insisted that the Sdkfz should not be too close to the battlefield, as they were losing just too many. As you say, it was just for moving high priority ranking officials, specific elite squads, probably carrying a few wounded back to base, and carrying messages from HQ and the front lines. Engaging in direct combat was their last priority and they were advised not to.

But here in Enlisted it’s all fun and games. Here, armored APCs act like mobile forts in which your AI will try to shoot everything in their surrounding area, with the benefits of having just a little protection. What I do is I just drive by a hot contested zone and I don’t stop for nothing, just drive and avoid crashing so I don’t loose speed and momentum. I helps divert the enemy’s attention while my team attacks. Using the driver’s view works best, as if your top gunner gets sniped out your vehicle doesn’t stop and you just keep driving. Sometimes it’s works, sometimes it doesn’t. But meanwhile I’m having a blast.

I mean yes and no, it varied by nation for sure.

The germans both did and did not, a lot were used as battlefield taxis, however there is also a lot of accounts, in particular of pioneers using them, to advance on a position to get close to use flamethrowers or satchel charges. Or using mounted weapons in a direct fire support role, from the stummel to the MG’s.

The Allies varied, the British universal carrier was more a artillery tractor than APC, though it would be used as a mobile MG nest or heavy flame projector as well. For the US, like in most things, their half tracks by doctrine werent meant to be used to assault, however often were used to advance on positions or transport men through direct lines of fire.

The soviets are the fun one, since due to their massive lack of dedicated APC, when they had them, they were a little silly with the, my favourite being the converted M3 Lee’s, fitted to carry a 17 men instead, often all armed with PPSh’s and dropped as close as physically possible to the enemy position. But in the case of the lend lease stuff, they were used in similar roles to their armoured cars and used either as recon elements or recon in force.

Yeah 100%, I would love mechanised units on like a Rider 2 or Rider 3 class, the other being for armoured cars.

But yeah, AI in the back of APCs are just cracked, I wonder if its because they are slightly elevated or something so in the AI mind, they have a clear shot all the time?
