Lately I have been playing more machine gunners since I’m going to unlock the MG-34 soon, but it’s made me realise how awkward the mounting system in this game is. I knew it wasn’t great, but I didn’t use it an insane amount before, hence why I’m only now realising how bad it really is.
The easiest way to mount is to just lie down, but then grass is in the way so I can barely see anything.
So, does anyone have have any tips for more successful mounting?
Edit: Thank you everybody, these tips have been very helpful, even more helpful than I thought they would be. It turns out the the mounting system is actually much more involved than just pressing B (in my case) near a ledge.
well, majority of the time, proning on the ground and use the bipod is a bit strange.
so the only tip that i can give you, is build sandbags. and/or use the bipod anywhere else but the ground if possible. ( barells, concrete walls, desks, obstacles, yada yada yada )
if not, it’s just a matter of positioning.
keep in mind that the bipod will " follow " the shape of the little ground you are laying on.
meaning that if you are near a little dump or a cliff, you will most likely look towards the bottom instead of above ( where you usually want to fire ).
and last tip i can give you, you can use doors and windows ( even the one that looks like you can’t reach because they look taller/smaller.
for example, moscow windows, or normandy ones.
that way, it will allow you to have a better view through the window and fire for effect ( even if you are unbipod, looks like it cannot be done ).
and that is basically it.
how it can help.

I changed my mounting button to F so its handier than with B. if you lie down from the distance of the objective, so you have enough time to figure out the perfect position to mount. (Quick tip: If you lie down AND mount the weapon, you will reduce the recoil even more than just by lying or mounting)

Also I had a conflict with B so I changed it. Some weapons have semi auto mode so when i would brace I would also switch to semi. Oops!

You can bind Mount to your right mouse button to make mounting a lot easier. I know some very good players who do this, but I personally don’t since it can cause issues where you brace when you dont mean to.
Also, bracing has a sorta “sweet spot” that changes depending on the length of the weapon. Longer weapons require you to be further away from the ledge youre mounting on, while shorter weapons you need to be closer.

windowsill, ground, fencepost, top of a barrel/crate, or just keep an engineer in your squad and build sandbags.
Really Tunisia is MG heaven because almost every surface is bipod-friendly and there’s usually no grass.

Sounds like a fun strategy for stress management.

Some other tips that aren’t about mounting itself but about setting up a fire position. Maybe you will find the useful.
- Even if you can mount on a window, generally it’s better to build a sandbag wall ~2m away from it and use it to mount your weapon. It gives you more small angles of fire instead of one big one, it’s much easier to overwatch a small portion of the battlefield than the big one.
You will be harder to spot and sandbags might save you from a tank round or a grenade. Also it gives a nice cover to reload.
- Have an AP mine on your Gunners. Place it behind corners etc. to stop players from flanking you.
It’s better to waste some bronze cards and live 1min longer to spread hell, than to die because of one dude on your back.
- Order your squad to guard position relatively far behind you, they should have nice view over your position and its surroundings. They won’t get shot immediately and, what is more important, will target any enemy soldiers that tries to flank you. They can really save your ass.
With personal orders you can split them, thanks to this all of them won’t die because of the single grenade.
Also, you can use personal orders to place your AI gunners in other windows of the building. AI with LMG is quite good so they might get some kills and 3 gunners might confuse the enemy and spread his fire instead of focusing on you. Although I’m still testing that so no guarantee.
- Build rally points on your back. If the enemy tries to flank you, firstly they will have to face waves of your allies spawning on the rally. Most of the time it will make you impossible to flank.
Of course rally has to be relatively close to the point to help your team (don’t be selfish) and to encourage allies to use it in the first place.
Edit
- Find positions that are perpendicular to the enemies, that go from their spawns to the point. This way you will cut off their reinforcements and help your team win and you won’t have to fight in CQC.
It doesn’t have to be perpendicular but you should try to because then you and your allies on the objective, will create overlapping fields of fire so the enemy will have nowhere to hide. And if enemy prioritises attacking the point, the game will turn into a duck hunt simulator
- Set up multiple positions that you can quickly change (prefferably while reloading to not wase time). Even moving to a window on the left/right might be enough to confuse the enemy and give you enough time to kill him before he kills you.
- If you want to be a chad LMG gunner, use bots to replenish ammo instead of ammo boxes.
