I think this is the third post I have done on this, but for the love of Pete, Dark Force, re-evaluate the strength of your roofs or the power of penetrating bombs. For some reason, Tank rounds can go all the way through a concrete building, but a bomb cannot penetrate a roof? Give me a break. I cannot penetrate a Russian horse stable roof with a 250 lbs bomb or as I am finding out now even penetrate a 'GRASS ROOFED HUT" in Burma. It’s ridiculous.
I have only been flying for maybe nine months and in that time have damn near 10k kills, yet I will bet that 99% were people standing outside because you program your roof strength giving your structures 20 feet of reinforced concrete for roofs. Please, do something about this or remove the structures since they all seem to be sanctuary from planes.
To be honest I think that most materials should have different strengths. For example a gun can pen twice as much wood as metal or it can pen much more hay than wood, etc, etc.

machineguns were just spraying on houses and getting kills.
so it was tuned alot down.
same it goes for bombs.
perhaps op either forgets or wasn’t around when the german ju 188 A2 was released alongside the ally A-20
you were practically killed by bombs at every corner and houses.
EVEN inside bunkers and objectives.
imo, bombs are fine as they are right now.
same as penetration for small caliber weapons.
I remember when hmgs were first added and I was playing in the Pacific, the straw huts and most wooden houses could be shot through. It was really fun but I’d hate to be on the receiving end.
Bombs are not any worse then artillery. If your going to neuter a bomb so it cannot penetrate, then why not neuter the tank round so it won’t penetrate as well? Why should a tank round be able to kill complete squads in and BEHIND a brick building, but a bomb cannot kill some dude in a grass hut?
I agree, though I think there needs tot be a bit more a nuanced approach, like small bombs might not go through a house roof, but a bigger say 250kg/500kg absolutely will. Its quite annoying on the factory maps where its just all one massive building and unless you can let God himself guide that bomb through the open window, the glass pane will stop that bomb dead in its tracks.
Maybe make it so the roof isnt a physical object for some bigger bombs, so if the bomb drops into the room, it kills everyone in the room but those outside the room get protected by the walls.
You know, half the tractor factory is missing the roof, yet you still can’t hardly kill anyone inside with a bomb. If their outside, yeah, you can kill anything that walks or crawls, but anything with a roof is sanctuary. You know, a grass hut in real life isn’t going to stop even the smallest caliber bullet, but for some reason DF thinks it should stop a bomb?
I’ll be honest, I really wouldn’t care if Dark Force didn’t allow a bomb to penetrate a roof. If however, they also didn’t allow a tank round to penetrate a wall! Dark Force needs to apply a little common sense or just get rid of tanks and planes. Tanks already get a gray zone and a round that penetrates, while a plane gets neither.
I think this can only work with at least some sort of destructible environment system - doesn’t need to be full Battlefield Bad Company, but a building getting visually damaged, like little cracks in the roof and walls starting to appear, then one could at least understand that a 500kg bomb just dropped on your cover.
Frankly, they should fix the hitboxes so you can “thread the needle” with bombs. For a long time I tried to drop bombs into the Gorky Theatre in Stalingrad, or factory halls. The only success I had was skipping bombs through the hangar doors on the airfield.
Yeah, I can understand a bomb maybe not killing people in the basement of a two or three story building, but even the 60 kg bombs dropped on a horse stable, log cabin, garage, barracks or any other one story building is GOING TO KILL at least everyone in the blast area. What DF does with their damage calculation is idiotic. Tanks get to blast through paper machete walls while sitting in their semi protected gray zones while planes are unprotected trying to drop bombs through 20 feet of reinforced concrete.
One of the only things of the many things in this game that irritate me more is when I come through a door shooting a dude in the back multiple times with my smg, only to have him spin around an melee kill me.
I mean like kinetic damage from the bomb. I know you get hitmarkers if a bomb lands on a tank but let me kill things by whacking them with a bomb to the face pls DF.
