Hello, I would like to propose some changes and improvements to the game. The animation of the melee combat with the shovel should be changed, currently the animation of digging in the ground is during the fight. I hope that my feedback will be helpful:)
Most easily solved by giving the shovel a seperate diging keybind, such as right-mouse button, also finally allowing people to sprint with shovels (I see no reason for why it shouldn’t be allowed, shovels were the go-to melee weapon for a reason).
Actually, all weapons that allow you to melee should allow you to charge, melee weapons should have other features which seperate them apart from allowing you to charge. Here is how I would do melee weapons:

Knives should have the fastest attack speed, slightly higher sprint speed (like 5-10%), have the shortest reach and lowest damage (after rifle-butt),

Axes should deal extra damage to structures and map-objects, and rightly should one-hit people,

Swords should rightly apply highest sprint speed, slightly faster attack speed than axes, second longest reach, Japanese Sword-Pistol should apply same sprint speed, and rightly should one-hit people,

Shovels should let you dig and have the slowest attack speed, and rightly should one-hit people,

Mounted bayonets should have slightly lower attack speed than average, but with the longest reach (used best in charges, sticking the enemy before they can melee you), and rightly should one-hit people,

Clubs are axes (can’t come up with anything unique for them that don’t involve “no killer highligts from clubs” but that’s silly, more should be added for all nations and Germanys should be remodelled to look less goofy, and rightly should one-hit people.
In a custom mode, if I recall correctly called “Assault on Spartanovka” you can charge with everything as well as weapons without bayonets, it makes the most sense as long as you keep the balancing you suggest. Buttstock charging has its vibe, though knife charging looks like some wizardous castery.
